@skinnylatte@hachyderm.io @sysop408@sfba.social Awesome! I'm so glad to hear that it's getting around! I won't be on the hiring panel, so I'd be happy to talk with anyone applying about our unit's culture and the department!

@kevin@en.osm.town Thanks Kevin and thanks for making it! I think it's going to spur a ton of work improving the details of already mapped crossings - at least it's working for me! And thanks for the suggestions to improve the PR like reminding me to make sure the sub-bronze level crossing visualization would work on multiple map backgrounds. In case anyone wants to carry this over, the JOSM mapcss version still needs updating ;)

Come lead emerging technology and AI policy at the State of California! This is a brand new senior position working under the state Chief Technology Innovation Officer: https://calcareers.ca.gov/CalHrPublic/Jobs/JobPosting.aspx?JobControlId=516415

It has been filled on an interim basis by an incredibly thoughtful leader who is leaving our agency soon, and another thoughtful leader would be wonderful!

My department is hiring a front-end programmer! It's on a sibling team to mine, but I know the managers and they're all great. The web team does a mix of work developing a shared platform and providing consulting services.

https://calcareers.ca.gov/CalHrPublic/Jobs/JobPosting.aspx?JobControlId=513268

I'm not on the hiring panel, so I should be able to answer many questions if anyone is interested.

@hareldan yeah, I agree with all of those points. Honestly I am surprised it's still here. They announced Maps Engine at the same time as Earth Engine, but shut it down a few years later. We spent the decade cautiously using Earth Engine, thinking it could disappear at any time.

Inspired by an ad on the back of WIRED magazine for a Hummer EV that made me and my spouse both, at separate times, audibly exclaim "WTF"

A few notes - I've seen this team do a lot of work driven both at the top and bottom to improve whatever the current state of a project is. I think the team is collaborative, and the other team members are great - I've really enjoyed everyone I've worked with on that team. You'd also quite literally be able to see my desk from yours. Cubicles across an aisle from each other - that's how closely we work with that team!

Lastly, CDT is good about reasonable accommodations and disability - it's an initiative driven from the top and with large-scale support. I learned *today* that people who request a reasonable accommodation, even during the hiring process, can and *have* received exemptions to the hybrid work requirements. You may be able to be remote within California if you qualify for an accommodation. Additionally, there's the LEAP program for an alternate examination process. https://dor.ca.gov/Home/LEAP

@hareldan what's the Earth Engine restructuring you're referring to? I know about them requiring the use of Projects, but actually saw that as their attempt to make the service profitable (which, IMO, was better than them shutting it down just because they're Google). I think I'd also disagree with that conclusion. Earth Engine was high code, IMO, but low-data management, and I think these companies showed a path to enough people who want it. With STAC + Dask, it's much easier to deploy.

The world remembers who issued and who carried out war crimes. It is the law of the United States to not bomb civilian facilities. Those who do will be held accountable somewhere. The bombings must not happen. Https://5calls.org to connect with your congressmember and tell them you expect them to put a stop to this
