The 4-inch clear bubble stuck out from the top of the aircraft to view the stars. Inside, a telescope and photomultiplier tube tracked a star, steered by motors and prisms. @kenshirriff Wait is this the inspiration for the R2 units plonked in the back of the Tie Fighters in Star Wars?
Open post neffo @neffo@mas.to · 4mo ago Replying to @davidgerard@circumstances.run i probably have to write about the spacex ipo i don't want to because then i'd have to even look at the 200pp S-1 and it's bullshit. i know it's bullshit. everyone knows it's bullshit. SpaceX knows it's bullshit. the Elon fanboys definitely know it's bullshit and they're buying in anyway. it's purely decorative. the big problem is the stock index scam they've pulled, a reprehensible fraud. i'll probably hammer on that for a bit the interesting bit is how little AI is involved. Grok doesn't have many users really. They had so much spare capacity they're renting it to Anthropic, their supposed competitor. Which also helps the numbers look less worse for the IPO. Twitter of course was turned into a basket case and the S-1 reveals all starlink is actually profitable (at huge externalities). think of spacex as an ISP with baggage. the defense business has a solid revenue stream the other part of the rocket business is elon doing dumb shit that blows up i can crib everyone else looking at the S-1 but as i've yelled at myself for the past 5 years, there's no substitute for reading the docs if i can digest 1200 pages of report on some crypto fraud into a comprehensible form then i can do this fucken @davidgerard@circumstances.run "This AI thing is nothing like the dotcom bubble you idiot" Completely unrelated story: an ISP is floating on the NASDAQ at a valuation of US$2 trillion with PE ratios of more than 100 to 1.

Open post neffo @neffo@mas.to · 3mo ago Replying to @evanspw@aus.social @camwilson@mastodon.social Much mirth in those costings. Current costings in the US around $US100B per GW. Is Australia 10x cheaper? Absurd. @evanspw@aus.social @camwilson@mastodon.social they are asking 5 companies to each find $20b to build that capacity (the article doesn't understand this tho)
