There are only two choices in computing: would you rather have the most minimalistic experience possible which you need to continuously augment OR would you rather have the most bombastically complete experience possible with far too much crap you need to remove?

Taking a well deserved break after 8 long, hard and grueling hours of sleep
G6 is set to be slop or total mid unless they literally lock in on making absolute cinema. They are not winning with a kids show with a rehashed and bastardized cast which has not been relevant for almost a decade in the big 26 in this market of cocomelon YouTube kids AI slop. The only shot is to recoup on merch or to make geniune peak, such as with something rated E for everyone like the episode-length meme compilations which are Teen Titans GO episodes, or even with more edgy teenager themes like the original Teen Titans (and that's already out of the question with the promotional material)
It is insane how much this one 1.4MB .jar from 15 years ago has done for millions of people
Today I've learned some people just hate happiness.
I found out that, according to modern internet consensus (reddit):
- If you like old Minecraft but weren't there to experience it when it came out: cringe larper.
- If you like old Minecraft and were there to experience it: nostalgia blinded boomer.
- If you like both old and modern Minecraft: fence sitter. Afraid you might say something and hurt someone's feelings, huh?... What? You do not worry about how other people will react to your opinions? Yes you do, shup up — I seek other people's validation constantly, so you must be the same!
- If you don't like either: sad doomer or ragebait.
And I am pretty sure it is the exact same people saying all of these things in different situations. The conclusion is retroactively applied and changed with every new piece of information learned about someone, with the only people exempt being their own friends or idols who they already know and share the same opinions with.
The problem with appealing to authority or appealing to maturity is that there are enough examples of confidence and maturity out there that idiots have learned how to mimic all the behaviors of a mature and knowledgeable person without any of the actual critical thinking required
The meaning of "Operating System" is actually very contextual and personal:
- agerage person - bootloader into Netflix and PornHub
- gamer - bootloader into ring 0 anticheat system which probably knows your current heartrate right now
- corporation - bootloader into while loop of slack and excel and chrome
- The corporation's IT guy - "whatever I feel like dealing with and have spyware for"
- government - surveillance, control and manipulation vector
- linux user - really pretty bootloader into PornHub
Why don't the sad and lonely people just become friends with one another and genuinely spend time together instead of pretending to be cool and nonchalant in hopes of that being the way to make friends and cleanse them of the silent torment.

this take will for some reason get you pure rage and hatred from both the vim lovers and vim haters
There is a mental affliction which I am noticing is becoming more and more prevalent which I can only describe as a "You have infinite resources, right?" mentality.

- Here is why you should take on this daily side-quest which consumes 3 hours of your life so you can be a well-rounded and normal person — I am implying you are as good as lobotomized crab for not doing this during your 3 free hours from work.
You might not believe it, but people do things with their lives, and they don't have time to learn how to compile everything from source.
When you're trying to have a moderately balanced take on AI but the guy who used chat gippity and midjourney once in 2022 has to correct you
If you think stopping texting first and never hearing from people again is bad, I have discovered the ultimate form of that: deleting ALL your messages only to never even be noticed or asked about it. It teaches you that the vast majority of people who you've tried cultivating a relationship with don't even bother checking the chat/DM with you unless prompted so by an unread message notification. They don't even check to consider something you once said before, to get back to you on something, or even just with the intention of formulating anything. That, or the memories were not even worth the effort of typing something
Any pick up and play games launcher which can the major game stores like GOG, Epic and Steam while also making it easy to find locally installed games, find games installed portably in directories and manage emulators?
I'm trying Playnite but i honestly have not been able to intuitively figure out how to do anything but GOG, Epic and Steam. I can see the interfaces are there but I can't understand what they want me to put there and how.
I know it's a lot to ask but i have too many games installed from every different way — also partly because i play so much niche stuff which would be lucky to have an installer.
The target is Windows, but i assume whatever the solution is will already be cross platform.

Imagine growing up watching Minecraft lets plays made by people who were excited to break the game and show you what they just discovered they could and the fun and real interactions with their friends through it.
Growing up wanting to cherish that memory and do the same to others.
But the only way your dream can survive anymore is by making "PICK THE RIGHT CHEST IN MINECRAFT: GARTEN OF BANBAN, SLENDERMAN, ELSA, GRINCH" while you and your friends and FAMILY have to pretend to be excited about not being touched by Ronald Mcdonald while they are actually on their period or after little Junior just pissed on the carpet because he forgot his potty training.
An entire generation grew up wanting to become YouTubers, and some of them inevitably did, but the YouTubers they had to become to survive aren't the YouTubers they wanted to be.

I think software development teams should start testing their tests sometimes.
For every test you write you should need to pass an IQ test with a score of 70 or more to commit the test.
It would really go a long way to improve the quality and reliability of test code

What are the minimum and recommended specs for programming? What about sysadmin or QA? What about web design or UX?
My specs are 82 IQ. For which is that enough?
@lainz@snug.moe In his post about using Cloudflare pages for a wedding site, he found some art he really liked and — instead of using them with credit or just asking for permission — he gave them to AI to describe and then used those descriptions to generate "a legally distinct but similar version in a watercolor style" because "I don't have to worry about using their artwork without permission since it's a freshly generated image".
I find this infinitely more offending than just using the images with credit, even without asking for explicit permissions.
I am rather surprised to see double dashes being used in place of em dashes, especially with extra space surrounding them. That's a rare writing opinion I've only seen myself do (the em dash just isn't feasibly writable on most computers, and I simply believe adding space around the em dashes is more readable and aesthetically pleasing). Though on a website you can just use -
The ego of people who don't use AI and act like AI is a direct pipeline from competent autonomy to total mental incapacitation is astonishing.

The best media of all time I have ever experienced was discovered purely by stumbling into the soundtrack (often through a meme) and listening to it for hours before watching the source media and realizing its just as good if not better. Literally the only criterion for me watching or playing something for hours on end or even prioritizing watching it or playing it is if the music is literally The Greatest of All Time, and it just happens that every time the main thing itself is even better.
Unless something has the best music of all time, it will purely be just one entry among a massive watchlist/playlist (in the sense of list of games to play) which i won't think about.
