[2/2] it would be very tempting to use AI to generate the app, but #1 I would miss the opportunity to learn something new and #2 I really need to have a good grasp of what is going on behind the scenes, and it would be a lot slower if I had to all of the sudden read through potentially thousands of lines of code to understand what the AI did.

@tinx @freecad did you use the standard tool in FreeCAD to generate threaded holes or did you design the thread yourself?

With the flying season just around the corner, it's now time to look up again and start studying the clouds to understand better the air around me.

I wonder if there are other hang glider and paraglider pilots on Mastodon.

Also, the gaming rig that became a server is now again a gaming rig + workstation. I had GPU bypass setup with a Windows VM on it but I really wanted to squeeze all the performance out of it without the overhead of virtualization. I gotta say that my 9070XT has been performing quite well in both scenarios and I trust it will keep on doing so in the years to come. I have even now been running LM Studio to test out a few models with decent results as well. Just not for coding, though

@kagihq@mastodon.social I just came across the website kagimail.com which is kagi branded. Does this domain belong to you or is it a scam / phishing attempt?

lmao had an Internet connectivity issue in an isolated network I have for IoT devices and the problem was indeed DNS but not in the way one would expect. But it was DNS, god damn it.

I just heard about the news of the USA kidnapping the president of Venezuela and his wife. Apparently flown out of the country.
Imagine it was Russia doing this. The world would be losing his shit.
All I can think of is the movie Team America: World Police.
What a fucking joke.

While sharing my screen one of my colleagues asked me what search engine I was using.
None of them were impressed when I told them it was Kagi, a paid search engine where I am not the product and my data is not sold to the best bidder, etc.
They said they were just too invested in Google.
Sadness.

Many year ago a colleague at Google gave me a Chromebook he had collecting dust.
I used it as my DNS + Home automation server, great because of the built-in screen + UPS, but 2 weeks ago it just died.
P1 at home. I had to repair all zigbee devices and redeploy AdGuard with all settings.
Obviously I had zero backups and I paid the high price 😭
But now everything runs in Proxmox and all backups go to PBS

I was just at a library and stumbled upon the teenage section where there were a bunch of really cool, illustrated books with all sorts of cool stories.
If reading was this fun growing up, I probably would have picked it up way sooner.
In Colombia we start with really heavy, hard to process stuff like La María, Don Quijote and other "classic novels" that are for sure important to know but are by no means meant to encourage young people to learn how to enjoy reading

Feeling grateful that I can follow people on Twitter directly on Mastodon thanks to the services of bird.makeup and similar sites

A few days working on an ubuntu machine, kneeled to a subpar experience with docker-compose only to find out just now that docker compose is now a built in plugin and it's written in go.
This is why I love Arch over all things ;(

Exciting announcement of Metroid Prime 4 for the Switch. Pity that it's a platform exclusive, though.
With all the power that other platforms (pc, xbox, pa) can yield these days, I can only imagine how much more visually astonishing this game could look.
In any case, looking forward to playing it

@vitobotta if what you are looking into is saving money, then maybe you should give openrouter a go. Your mileage may vary but it is a great way to quickly test multiple models without having to pay individual subscriptions to all the providers. They also route your request to the best provider. I am so far pleased with the results.

I don't know why it took me so long to find a proper (nerd) font for my terminal. All this time just sticking to the defaults.
But now I spent a good half an hour going through each one of the nerd fonts available in the nerd-fonts package in archlinux to see which one I liked the best (for now, anyways), and stuck with RecMonoSmCasual, on alacritty. Looks nice.

Also, with regards to running models locally, wow, what a rabbit hole I have bene in.
To summarize it best: for the Strix Halo Qwen3 Coder Next is the best model so far when it comes to consistency and token generation.
From my short experience, anything >= 20 t/s is good, so as long as quality is good as well (which this model yields!).
But for planning it's still better to use a SOTA model and then have the smaller model execute.

Can't have the cake and eat it.
I have been using opencode for months but since I have also been running local models, I have been testing pi to keep the initial context as short as possible. opencode's about 12k initially after a short "hi" whereas pi is just above 1.5k but the interface feels really bare compared to opencode's.
I just tested out oh-my-pi (based on pi) and its initial context length is 22k :(

#paragliding I just did a 1h ground handling session and wow, I am so rusty. Back in the day I was ground handling a few times a month.
It hurt a bit to catch the mistakes after they had happened. Like, oh, I was too late to react to that.
The good news is that I know this is all about muscle memory, so I just need to do it another 100 times. Then I'll be able to do it with my eyes closed :)

@zeab@fosstodon.org I know Mozilla can do whatever they want with their money and they should keep on experimenting with new technologies so that they are not left behind (any healthy business should always be investing in R&D) but I have to say I am fed up with companies trying to shove their way into anything AI. I am just so sick of it AI every fucking where. Just stop

@awax@piaille.fr @isaiah@mastodon.social interesting. For bugs I just explain the bug to the agent, let it fix it and ask it to make sure the spec is up to date. Definitely a live saver but I don't know if it scales with really tricky bugs where the context window grows out of proportion
