I have #degoogled my Samsung Galaxy A tablet from 2016 by installing /e/OS/. I initially wanted to get #lineageos but could not find a current zip download as my device is not officially supported and depends on unofficial builds. I will try that in the future but documented my process here: https://codeconduct.hypotheses.org/470 I will mostly use the tablet for drawing and reading, so no Google apps needed, and security also matters less to me. I know there's conflict about /e/OS/ in the #opensource world.

I have added more abstracts and posters submitted during the summer to our #DHBenelux2026 Zenodo community: https://zenodo.org/communities/dhbenelux2026/records?q=&l=list&p=1&s=10&sort=newest
If you missed the event in June, you may want to browse the records now, also to get some inspiration for your own teaching and research. 👩🏼🎓
I have just completed my first introduction day for new #MADigitalCultures students in my new role as program director. My alien Axel and I celebrated with icecream and having our picture taken in the photo booth. @fasosmaastricht@bird.makeup
@mobhistory@mastodon.social Haha, this is THE account for me! I started using "mob" as a nickname during my PhD project on 18th-century riots, revolts and revolutions because it's also a good acronym in a family where my siblings' first names also start with an "M". So, I definitely have to follow you! 😁
I am grateful for our lively discussion in my workshop on creating & hosting Open Educational Resources. Across institutions and disciplines, we share the same challenges and experiment with similar solutions. There is no one-fits-all workflow or platform, but providing content in an easy-to-convert format like #Markdown is always a good start. Different static site generators and documentation generators allow attractive and usable deployments. Contact me to exchange knowledge! #nosf2025
It was nice to give a mini lecture at our #BADigitalSociety Experience Day! The topic which I addressed were the (corroding) boundaries between politics and the tech economy. Why do democracies ideally need a separation of government and business? Why is this difficult in the case of Big Tech? And why do so many countries now aim for #digitalsovereignty? Going #OpenSource is not always possible, but we can also consider local proprietary IT solutions if we want to avoid the big players.
Rutger Schurgers & I will present the #storytelling engine #StoryScript (based on JavaScript & TypeScript) at #dhbenelux26 in Maastricht. While I have made a small historical demo & am working on extended versions, we can also showcase a fully developed fantasy game based on "Veils of Verdandi" by @Fabian_Schurgers@mastodon.social. We hope to discuss new use cases & possible new features with you all!
Delighted to announce that we are expanding the scope of #dariahTeach beyond the previous focus on #OER creation! Check out our new blogpost and join us at the #DariahEU Annual Event in Rome to contribute:
RE: @ProjectJupyter@hachyderm.io
I think everyone in academic IT should read this. We need distributed infrastructure, indeed, last but not least for teaching! Students are often excluded from more sensitive internal university infrastructures, and our options to share executable code are still extremely limited. This results in complex registration procedures just to teach a class of undergraduates a bit of Python. This needs to change!
One task that staff & students outsource to #llmchatbots is transforming #BibTex from a publisher website or library catalogue into particular academic citation styles. To save resources, we can look into alternatives like Chris Proctor's pybtex-apa7-style #Python plugin for #APA7. I have adapted his plugin in a script with widgets for reuse in Colab:
https://github.com/MonikaBarget/DigitalHistory/blob/master/BibTex_conversion.ipynb
Maybe this is of help to others. MLA & other citation styles have no pybtex plugins yet, but this may still change. 🤞🏼
I'm creating #syntheticdata for teaching in the social sciences & find that #SDG with LLMs isn't for my small-scale use. While there are workflows to combine LLMs & generate more credible output ( https://link.springer.com/chapter/10.1007/978-3-031-93418-6_9 ), general-purpose models often create results that are too diverse & reflexive, even when imitating oral communication. Such data reminds me of journalism scandals à la Stephen Glass. High-quality data in my case is more messy and dull. Just look at YouTube comment sections.
