RE: https://infosec.exchange/@david_chisnall/116901167730598410 hahahahah ofc. the bias propagation machine propagates biases. Long story but one of the many AI/ML based hr startups wanted to claim how their profiled candidates done well in the roles they got hired for and i asked but did the folks you rejected underperform? Forgot a bad one they didn't even have one deflection ready for no one in the team or client or investor had asked of type 1 AND 2 error validation. Ever. That was just tip of iceberg on those startup models. solid grift lads.

June has ended, the monsoon has not even started in my city . (man fuck your ai startup and your research using ai and ai art and ai in schools. Can we plants some trees at large scale instead?)

One of the most interesting film i saw this year, is streaming now. It is a truly ambitious, fever dream of a film. But more importantly, it reminds you to fall in love with cinema again. A forgotten feeling of diving into dreams, myths, and memory. Of film. On film. If there is one film you watch this year based on my reco, i say go with Bi Gan's resurrection. Let the trailer persuade you with the mood and vibe https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZIJezWgFUEY

@elizayer@mastodon.social "It's like everyone has prioritized instantaneous boat speed and abandoned navigation and maintenance" That is such a evocative and accurate way to describing that phenomena

@ansuz@gts.cryptography.dog @otfrom@functional.cafe So i have not read the book but a lot of my global north peers shared it with me. Correct me if am wrong, but the opening is about a horrible violent massacre in India where the only survivor is the foreigner character? Putting that aside, it feels weird getting reco-ed a fiction book about doomed future, when as an indian living through this reality, & folks reco in are in us, uk, safe as they close borders, outsource data centers...I hate being a lesson for my "betters".

@onuryasar oh my god this takes me back to my childhood my cinephile father introducing me to Ray's work one fine afternoon after i finished homework for the week

@onuryasar apu trilogy is iconic introduction to ray and indian (arthouse?) cinema in general. welcome!

"These angry idealists, however, know that if they lecture the world about what a rotten place it is, no one will listen. But if they trivialize the exalted, pull the trousers down on snobbery, if they expose society for its tyranny, folly, and greed, and get people to laugh, then maybe things will change. Or balance [...] To solve the problem of weak comedy, therefore, the writer first asks: What am I angry about?"

@RobAtk@mastodon.social No other choice was funnier than it had any right to be. absolute dark comedy done well. and the technical/craft aspects were so alluring. so many interestingly shot scenes.

@arratoon@beige.party i couldn't get through beyond 7 mins of running man, it looked so lifeless and dull. perfunctory.

I finally gave in and read the opening chapter of that climate emergency novel of Kim Stanley Robinson. And i have to wonder the judgement of my american & european peers recommending it to me. Our peril, a lesson for your dinner parties. While their leaders parrot some form of social liberal, fiscal conservative nonsense. I would like more stories where global south gets to save global north, how it feels to not be defacto hero in every disaster story. Or even cast as the distressed.

@arratoon@beige.party @onuryasar@mastodon.online @ishmaellasting@mastodonapp.uk I remember it was a year i complaining to a friend that i miss tv that let folks act with each other (as opposed to plot focused) and lo behold they aired the show as a answer to my prayer. they were indeed excellent in it.
