I'm really pleased to get my advance copy of 'What I Believe' edited by Andrew Copson. Seeing my words amongst those of such great people is quite humbling. My part is on my thoughts about an open-source world and how it benefits mankind.

All you #homelab, #linux, etc bloggers and Youtubers out there: When using nano, CTRL+s will save the file.
You don't have to exit without saving and then answer Y to the prompt `save modified buffer`, then `enter` to keep the same filename.
Be intentional: save file, exit editor. CTRL+s, CTRL+x
That is all. 🙂

@nzlemming@mastodon.nz @nixCraft@mastodon.social Years ago, I used a DOS program that did its own backups to floppies (this was around 1988). When it came time to restore, I discovered it had an overflow bug once you got past 32k records! Spent 2 days writing code (in Turbo Pascal) to fix bits in the backup files so I could restore! Also, it was EBCDIC encoded!!!

@docteer no difference that I know of. Apart from saving a single keystroke. But it is more about being intentional, as I said. We often learn things that "work by coincidence". Most of the time it is benign. Occasionally, it's not.
I have done the same many, many times over the years. But when I learn the correct way to do something, I try to switch to that.
