Almost 80% of Australian uni students now use AI. This is creating an ‘illusion of competence’

@petafloppa this has probably already been said, but the main beef from a language design perspective is it doesn't like to tell you when something's wrong, so it lulls people into a false sense of security. sure it'll look like everyone's getting things up and running faster, because of course lol. if it's not that critical that you know something's gone wrong with what you wrote, then fine

@lindsey@recurse.social like the main grant domestic Australian PhD students will get funded with is the government's RTP ("research training program") scholarship. I don't think I've ever heard people actually calling anyone a "trainee" though

@lindsey@recurse.social I use the word training but mainly because I see it in the vocational sense and cos the phrase "research training" is a bit normalised here, now I'm nervous it gives off a weird vibe haha. had never picked up on that sense before
