mastodon 4.8.0-nightly.2026-10-06
Last year I had this idea of creating an #HTMHell advent calendar for 2022. 24 blog posts about HTML. I'm not one of the authors, but reviewing, editing, etc. is eating up sooo much time nonetheless.
Anyways, having read most of the posts already, I can tell you that it's absolutely worth the effort. So many outstanding contributions about a11y, security, usability, performance, and UX.
Look out for the first article on Thursday!

Memo to myself: you're closer to 40 than to 30. Working more than 10 hours several days in row doesn't work anymore without needing time to recover. Also, next time you meet with someone for “a coffee” on a Thursday maybe try 2 instead of 4 beers.
“I’m Dutch, so any lunch that’s above a piece of bread with a slice of cheese just registers as “fancy” in my head. I can’t help it. A cheese sandwich with green bits sticking out of it? Boom. Fancy.” - @Kilian@mastodon.social

Day 28: custom properties and web components
We already know that we can encapsulate styles within a web component and we know that web components inherit styles. Another interesting feature of web components in terms of CSS is that custom properties used in a web component can be modified from the outside.
Ich mag den tone of voice auf der FH Joanneum. 😁
We're slowly approaching the end of the year which means “year in review” posts. Are you writing one? I'd love to read it!
I still remember “preparing” with my friends for our first festival by memorizing lyrics, and now it's been already 20 fucking years since I've watched Slipknot* live for the first time! 😲
* ...and KoRn, NoFX, Flogging Molly, Disturbed, Clawfinger, Reel Big Fish, No Use For A Name, Tinc, Nickelback lol, and others...
I just made a reference in a room full of mostly 20-something students and I believe no one got it.
Let's see how old/educated Mastodon is. 😁 When I say 8675309, do you know what I'm talking about?
