Final day of NZ Music Month!
This is an unreleased Fur Patrol song played for the first time in 20+ years at their recent shows around NZ:
“Why”

I’ve enjoyed listening to lots of NZ music outside of my usual rotation this month. Thanks to all of the artists!
Day 27 of NZ Music Month, and I’m still enjoying finding new bands I haven’t heard before. This is a relatively new band “The Sour”, who have released their debut EP “Daughters” this month. My fav song so far is Hex:
We’ve got the family around for a 1y/o birthday party, so for day 16 of NZ music month, we’ve got this recent release from Suzy Cato:
Curtain’s down on the comedy festival. It was a great 3 weeks. I managed to get to 21 shows across a broad range of genre.
Hoani Hotene was great, including his memorable political analogies.
I also thought Kipling DC’s cowboy was a standout. He’s up for the Billy T award and is a strong contender - we’ll find out tonight as the awards are presented in Auckland at 7pm!
Day 23 of NZ Music Month, and listening to a new song from Pereri King called “Whiti Ana Te Rā”:
The music video is joyful, and the story behind the lyrics is very cool:

Today the Black Seeds have released a great new track today “8 BIT”:
The video is so so great!
NZ music month, day 21:
Reb Fountain released a new EP “Smoke Signals” this month with 7 songs. My pick is “Keep your heart open”:
It’s the 20th of May, time for all the bills to be paid!
NZ Music Month recommendation for today is (Listen to) The Sound of the Wind by Amamelia:
I’ve held the amusing domain spare fish for a few years and haven’t used it for anything for a while. If anyone wants it, let me know!
NZ Music Month day 19. I continue to discover great music being released by Aotearoa artists :)
Rock Resurrection is a Wellington punk band with teenaged band members, and their song “Take me away” is another fitting song for the world we find ourselves living in.
NZ Music Month day 18 sees the release of Logan Edwards’ song Isla. It’s a catchy song, and also has a cute backstory and video about the singer’s relationship with his sister:

Sunday night relaxation for NZ music month day 17 - Sacral Tears by Ash Sales:

NZ Music Month day 30:
This song has bouncing around my brain all day. Boh Runga, singer from Stellar* released a solo album Right Here in 2009, and this song “Evelyn” has been living in my head, apparently without paying rent.
NZ music month day 29:
A great Aotearoa Music awards livestream last night from Radio NZ reminded me that there’s so much amazing music out there. Congrats to all the nominees and winners!
My pick for day 29 is the inimitable Julia Deans, singer of Fur Patrol, solo artist, collaborator with Anika Moa, Anna Coddington, The Adults, and a driving force behind Atomic!
Here’s one of her great solo tracks, “Walking in the sun”:
NZ Music Month day 28:
Aotearoa musician Leroy Clampitt has released “Sick Day” today, with a retrotastic music video!
I think we can all sympathise with wanting to take a sick day!
NZ music month day 26:
Module / Jeramiah Ross is one of my favourite artists to work to. He makes music of so many different genres and is a really talented artist, based in Wellington. He releases his new stuff on Soundcloud:
https://soundcloud.com/modulehq
On the streaming services you can find some of his released albums and other tracks he has worked on and released.
25th of May, and exactly 7 months until Christmas.
This song by NZ musician Paige is called “warmest gift”, and is a sweet Christmas song:
It might help you get into the Christmas spirit!
NZ music month day 24:
Emma Rutherford has just released her new song Losing Sight. We’re getting older!
