@MissingThePt@mastodon.social Thank for for this incomparable coverage of the solar eclipse.

@Garwboy@ohai.social I'm reading Hold On To Your Kids by Gabor Mate and it dives deeply into exactly these behavior patterns, explaining why the issue is how social dynamics influence the expression of natural behaviors, rather than those behaviors being either completely normal, or evidence of brokenness with the individual.

@sbi@toot.berlin Every small step towards a better world matters. Also, my friend @BillySmith@social.coop has an extensive background in sustainable agriculture systems. I can't speak for him, but I'm sure there are few who would be more happy to talk about how agriculture *could be* sustainable.

@sbi@toot.berlin The greatest power of renewable energy is the ability to bring energy use and production into the realm of the personal, comprehensible, and controllable. Who gives a shit how much energy you consume when it all comes from the grid and always costs the same? But if you've got household solar and a battery system, you can track your own energy production and consumption, and plan your energy usage around efficiency.

@sbi@toot.berlin Find that you're over-producing by the afternoon? Plan break baking around peak sun hours so that excess energy isn't wasted. Energy management can be a fun exercise in direct household resource management, rather than an abstract headache of budgeting.

@Rushkoff Welcome back after your time away. I see this in a lot of different aspects of the world, where we arrive at some new way of conceptualizing a problem, and declare that this new conception is reflective of reality, and then get stuck on it, forgetting that any model we have for reality can only be a better approximation, at best, of the world. What are some other ways that you see assumptions of the world resulting in warped perceptions of the world?
