Diversity and tolerance are among the foundations of our democracies. The abhorrent attack on Berlin’s Pride parade was an assault on our free and open societies. Those who resort to violence, hatred and intolerance will never succeed. Our thoughts are with the victims, their loved ones, and everyone affected.

We’re turning up the pressure on Russia’s shadow fleet. The oil tanker MV SOUTH STAR, suspected of sailing under false flag in breach of international maritime law, has been boarded on 20 July by Operation @EUNAVFOR_MED IRINI forces for flag verification. Every illicit voyage helps sustain Russia's war machine. We are matching our sanctions with action at sea. In parallel, Member States this week have authorised Operation @EUNAVFOR@respublicae.eu ATALANTA to begin conducting flag verification boardings of suspected Russian shadow fleet vessels, in the same way Operation IRINI does. This decision further tightens the net.

Relations between the EU and the Philippines are on a positive trajectory.
Today, we are upgrading our ties towards an Enhanced Partnership. This means closer coordination on foreign and security issues, as well as on areas that matter to our citizens - from trade to climate, digital and connectivity.
We also make available the first-ever European Peace Facility assistance measure for the Philippine Armed Forces, worth €15 million.
It is the first-ever support to be implemented in the Indo-Pacific and a clear sign that Europe is stepping up as a security partner in the region.

R to @kajakallas@respublicae.eu: This is our largest round in four years, totalling 218 listings. We’ve hit more than a hundred banks and crypto operators, over 40 shadow fleet vessels, and several oil refineries in Russia and Belarus, who help keep Moscow’s war going. We are also responding to Russia’s relentless attacks on civilians, infrastructure and cultural heritage by listing more than 50 military-industrial entities, including key actors involved in the production of Russia's long-range drones. This comes on top of last week’s sanctions on those responsible for the abuse and killing of Ukrainian prisoners of war and civilian detainees, alongside tech companies enabling the Kremlin’s repressions of internet users.

Claims that the Baltic States allow Ukraine to use their airspace are utter nonsense - and Russia knows it.
Moscow’s threats against the Baltic States are not a sign of strength, but of weakness.
Russia is failing on the battlefield in Ukraine and is trying to intimidate us into reducing our support for Ukraine.
The right response is to do the opposite: increase our support to Ukraine and boost Europe’s defences even further.

Russia’s indiscriminate attacks on Kyiv and other regions cause civilian casualties by design, not by accident. The strike on Latvia’s Honorary Consulate in Slovyansk underscores Moscow’s utter disregard for international law. Latvia has our full support. In response, we will summon Russia’s envoy to the EU over today's strikes and I will propose more listings aimed at Russia’s military-industrial complex.

We have agreed on the 21st sanctions package against Russia. It delivers sweeping measures targeting Moscow’s financial system, its military-industrial complex and energy sector, that keep Russia's war economy running. We are hitting Putin where it hurts most: cutting off the financial lifelines he relies on to sustain his war. This is not the end of the road on sanctions. We are already working on the next steps. The EU must be ready to respond to any further Russian escalation.

We’re sanctioning Russia at speed and scale.
Today’s measures, together with the upcoming 21st sanctions package, will add 250 individuals and entities to the Russia sanctions regime.
This is our biggest round of individual designations since Moscow’s 2022 full-scale invasion, and includes also the EU’s largest-ever cyber sanctions package.
The financial backbone of Russia’s war machine is the main target. Every measure weakens Moscow’s ability to wage war.
