@neatnik@social.lol I don’t like this personally because it’s a very slippery slope and lumps all usage of what is mislabeled as AI into one place. I don’t use AI to write, but I do have an editing LLM prompt that helps ask questions and is built on my writing corpus. Is that generative AI? In my mind, no, because it didn’t generate my writing. But someone would see it as such and I’ve already lost subscribers because of that “admission.” To me, it’s a tool to help, to others it’s a slop slot machine. Because there isn’t clarity of the term, it would lead to problems.

@neatnik@social.lol And that’s where I think it gets problematic. For techy people who know the difference, it’s one thing. But because these tools position it all as one system, how do you know the difference? Grammarly’s paid version which I use at work restructures sentences for me all the time, but never in a million years would I consider that as generative AI because it just feels like more advanced spelling and grammar checking. Now if I tell ChatGPT to generate an image, yeah, that’s clearly me using generative ai. The problem is that you can’t define AI in a clean and easy to differentiate way.

@neatnik@social.lol I get it 100%. It’s difficult to pin down because the term AI is so broadly used, but we’re also approaching it from an American-centric approach. I recently wrote about 3500 words on this exact topic.
