Working on podcast stuff 👨💻

- HomeKit: HMError.Code.nfcReaderTooHot
- SwiftUI: new toolbar item axisBehavior modifier

found four websites with audio players that prefetch the episode audio just by visiting the website, before the user hits the play button
going to have to exclude all requests from these sites in OP3 stats for now - if they get fixed someday, I can unexclude as of a fix date

‘These actors carried out a sustained effort to develop guided weapons, using Claude to design guidance software. They did test-fire a guided rocket. This field test appears to have failed: within hours, the actors returned to Claude to work out why it failed.’

‘Many listeners say they love podcasts because they help fill the in-between moments of life, such as exercising, driving or grocery-shopping. Having to watch kind of defeats the purpose.’
New data: Top CDNs used by the 1.9 million new podcast episodes found in April 2026
👀 over the last few days, the newish podcast hosting company Flightcast has quietly become the leader in publishing HLS video as alternate enclosures in RSS feeds
I just added a new filter to make it easy to see them on the radar:

heads up @samsethi@podcastindex.social you've mentioned a few times now that I've been excluding AI-generated podcasts from my "OP3 reports"
my monthly reports based on new episode share on livewire.io have nothing to do with OP3
they look at the universe of all podcasts, not just the small percentage that have the OP3 prefix
I started those monthly reports before OP3 was even a glimmer in my eye...
@samsethi@podcastindex.social just saw an incoming invalid payment payload come through from podfans
what is "rss::payment::auto" ? I've only seen boost and stream so far
and also the link does not seem to open the payment details in the browser
and also there is no x-rss-payment header in the response, which is the whole point
looks like Apple Podcasts has updated their partner list website for those that support the new "Video" (rss + hls) support in 26.4
now 16 partners
‘I'd like to buy him for what he's worth, and sell him for what he thinks he's worth’
Buzzsprout published their public podcast stats for April 2026, so I just updated my post tracking them over time

Vietnam! (should filter those too)
♫ ‘but I don't wanna be lonely / let it all go to waste’
- NetworkExtension: deprecated pirServerURL in favor of info plist
Private Information Retrieval server sounds peachy

‘The future may not be a few huge apps running on a few huge platforms, generating tons of revenue; it could instead be tons of little ones, purpose-built for the church, mutual aid group, company department or softball league.’
- SwiftUI: new toolbarVerticalCompressionBehavior view modifier
more duo stuff

one thing I haven't heard anyone mention, but noticed yesterday when upgrading
the new apple watch back side went from sapphire crystal to zirconia on both the series 12 and the ultra 4
alert r/shrinkflation
- StoreKit: new ExternalPurchaseCustomLink.ExternalPurchaseType enum

‘Someday soon every home will have a weblog, and we'll have great aggregation tools that allow us to quickly assemble lists of loved ones who survived. A new button on cellphones that says "I made it" and it flows the fact to all your concerned friends.’
man, that heat/hornets game was such a great advertisement for the whole concept of a play-in
and yet another demonstration of why amazon prime should never be allowed to stream another nba game again

iOS 26.5 beta 3 is out!
‘When a fan shows support with a Super Chat, Super Stickers, or gifts, you want to thank them right away. To make sure that moment isn’t interrupted, we’ll be rolling out an update that automatically creates a personal ad-free window right after their purchase.’
