Astrophysicist by day, amateur astronomer by night. I am into telescope making, astrosketching and astrophotography.
I spend most of my time looking for Earth-sized exoplanets and communicating astronomy.

🇬🇧 A new comet is visible with the naked eye ! C/2025 R3 (PanSTARRS) is an Oort cloud comet which will reach perihelion (the closest distance) on the 19th, before going away forever. This morning, I loaded my backpack and set up to capture it. I wanted to see it rise next to the Bietschhorn (3 934). The comet is currently in the Pegasus constellation, just below 51 Pegasi, the first star known to host an exoplanet. If you have clear skies, you should definitely try to see it : It is bright, and will pass only once! It already shows a very long tail, more than 10° long. The image was taken with a 120-300 lens, set at 180mm. It is an ethical composite: I first captured the foreground with the tracking off (5 x 15s) and then turned the tracking on when the comet reached the desired position (120 x 15s).

🇬🇧 From the 11th of February, the exhibition "Rallumer la nuit" (Lighting up the night) will will be on display on the lakeside in Rolle.
You will find a selection of my astronomical pictures between the Château and the Casino.

It is an honour to share the beauty of the night sky and my passion for astronomy in Rolle, my hometown.

The exhibition is part of the "La nuit mon amie" series of events organised by the Energy and Sustainable Development Commission (COMEDD).

Thank you to the Culture-Sport-Events office for making it possible :)

🇬🇧 The comet C/2025 R3 PanSTARRS is getting brighter by the day (or night).

It is getting lower on the horizon as it moves towards the Sun.

Light pollution from Morges and Lausanne, coupled with the haze, made it harder to see and capture the comet.

I brought my 35cm telescope to the lakeside and had a blast ! The comet is quite saturated and appears distinctly blueish. The tail stretches beyond the eyepiece FoV.

A friend joined me, and we could enjoy both the moonrise and sunrise. It was a great night.

The forecast is not great for the next few days, so I will follow the comet through your views. If you don't like waking up early, you can stay up late. This comet is worth it !

🇬🇧 The field that changed exoplanets.

Kepler was a 0.95m space telescope launched in 2009 to detect exoplanets passing in front of their stars. The main scientific goal of the mission was to detect Earth-like planets around Sun-like stars, and measure how common they are. To achieve this, Kepler observed a fixed field at the border between the Cygnus and the Lyra constellation for nearly four years.

This field of view is roughtly 11°x11°, that's about the size of your palm with your arm stretched in front of you. 🤚🏻
Kepler used 42 CCD sensors to measure the brightness of the stars in this region of the sky, respresented as white squares.

Kepler observed approximately 150 000 stars and detected 2 783 confirmed exoplanets, with 1 979 candidates yet to be confirmed.

Small planets are remarkably common: approximately 50% of Sun-like stars host at least one planet smaller than 4 Earth-radii.

The picture was taken from the top of Mont Fort, in the Swiss Alps, at 3300m of altitude.
