Can planets form around supermassive black holes? 🌌
New simulations suggest the dusty disks around actively feeding supermassive black holes could produce enormous planet-mass objects — with some potentially growing massive enough to become stars.

What if a rocky planet didn't have a core? That can't happen, can it? It should differentiate... well, there might be a set of circumstances under which that might happen. If it does, they're going to be a bit strange.
As to how they might be weird. They might deform more due to rotation and gravitational distribution; they might have an unstable or no magnetic field, and the minerals on their surface would definitely be exotic.

From disappearing "zombie planets" that vanish in front if our telescopes, to an impossible triple star system, the Fomalhaut system has been confounding astronomers for decades.
And now, a new discovery may have uncovered something even stranger...and maybe artificial!

The things we can tell about exoplanets now are a bit insane. For example, with this case study of LHS 1140b (48.8 light-years away), we can tell there is an inter-annual variation in the helium it degasses to space.

A staple #Worldbuilding trope many authors like might have finally got some scientific support - tidally-locked planets might be able to support life by exchanging heat between sides (making them potentially really windy). But heat transfer isn't limited to the atmosphere; it is also in the mantle.

The geology of chocolate bars...
It's more than 50 years since we left the Moon and, as far as I can see, we still have no equivalent for the prefix in the word 'Geology', the science of the physical structure of the Earth and its rocks.
We have Exo-geology, and lunar geology and planetary geology but no xxxology where xxx is a prefix denoting the study of non-Earths.
Who can help me out, here?
