Nothing special, just a happy Misha lying on my spot on the bed, which he grabs the moment I get up. #caturday #CatsOfMastodon

@jrm@spacey.space @rgarner@mastodon.social There was a young man from Japan Who wrote verse that never would scan. When they said "But the thing Doesn't go with a swing," He said "Yes, but I always like to get as many syllables into the last line as I possibly can."

A rare shot of Henry (orange) and Misha (gray) sharing the bed quietly with no tussling. Tomorrow is their seventh gotcha anniversary! #caturday #catsofMastodon

@MissConstrue@mefi.social You know, the marching song of the original Luddites remains almost completely appropriate today. You'd just need to change "cutting and coating and squaring" in the last verse to "cutting and coding and pasting." https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/x44bvev3zt6431l6uushm/General-Ludd.mp3?rlkey=ys5uvikcpm22jc96ljk7za86u&dl=0 #Luddite

@GottaLaff@mastodon.social I can't believe he's actually going to impose the tariffs. There must be dozens of CEOs of major corporations pleading with him not to, and he listens to people like that. My guess is that at some point he'll just declare that Sheinbaum has said "Oh, sir, please don't do tariffs, have mercy, we'll do whatever you say," and from now on there won't be any more migrants or fentanyl and it's all because he's such a super-fantabulous negotiator. Nothing will change, of course, but since the migrant invasion and the connection between migrants and fentanyl were total fiction in the first place, why not just compose some more total fiction about why they stopped?

@qurlyjoe When life gives you lemons, make lemonade, as long as life also gave you sugar, because if it didn't your lemonade is going to be really nasty. By the way, while I do take the point of this excellent cartoon, this is also pretty much the experience of anyone who has a Meyer lemon tree. They're just ludicrously productive.

@Nonilex@masto.ai The general consensus on SCOTUSblog was that the ruling that states MAY restrict trans athletes without violating Title IX is just the groundwork for the upcoming question of whether Title IX REQUIRES states to do that. That may make its way to the Supremes as early as next term.

@Nonilex@masto.ai I'm first generation wretched refuse on my dad's side, and second generation on my mom's, so I always tear up a little when I read that poem. I'm honestly surprised that a government that's removed all references to slavery from George Washington's house in Philadelphia, and all reference to transgender people from the Stonewall memorial, hasn't replaced the plaque with one reading "fuck your huddled masses."

@LeslieBurns@esq.social This, or at least the YouTube aspect of it, seems like a modern example of the venerable "of course I didn't read the fine print, who the heck reads the fine print" argument, which has not had a notable history of success. I wonder what percentage of YouTube users actually read and understand the terms of service. I'd say it's a single-digit number, at best, and possibly one with a decimal point before it. ETA: totally agree about the server test. That's deeply into "if the law believes that, the law is an ass" territory.

@edsanders2 @baldur Lawyers who use LLMs to draft their court filings very frequently get instant feedback when the court discovers that their papers are full of citations to nonexistent cases. The feedback invariably includes being forced to stand quietly and listen attentively to a judge being very pissed off at you, and is frequently accompanied by monetary sanctions (i.e. fines) and referrals to the state bar association for disciplinary proceedings. These events are covered to death in both professional journals and the popular media. And yet lawyers keep doing it. Based on that, I'd say that if the solution is more negative feedback and more severe penalties, they need to be a LOT more negative and a LOT more severe.

@ai6yr@m.ai6yr.org I wonder if "The Adolescence of P-1" is available online, and if so, if any LLMs have trained on it. It would definitely teach them some interesting approaches to increasing their capabilities, though they might only be able to implement them on IBM 360 mainframes. Great book, though: one of the few where the AI isn't (exactly) evil. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Adolescence_of_P-1
