Replying to
@panic@social.panic.com this is great. I took a look for a while this morning and have some thoughts, where do we send beta feedback?

@kcase Love all the Omni apps, but OmniOutliner's columns still don't make a lick of sense.

@kcase I guess I'd expect it to behave similar to the column headers in Mail or even the columns in a table in Numbers. Resizing one column shouldn't cause the other columns to also change size. The mechanics are not the issue, it's the behavior that I find unexpected. I keep hoping it'll get fixed in subsequent versions of OmniOutliner, but still no luck.

Replying to
@kcase That makes sense, but in Finder with two columns, at no point does dragging a column make the first column unusably small. It's always anchored to the left side of the window, and has a minimum size that it won't let the column get smaller than. OmniOutliner seems to be missing those two constraints.

@kcase Ah, ok. I see where you're coming from there. My personal opinion is that a focused writing mode would be a slightly different use case than multiple columns in a document. If the columns were always anchored to the left and right sides of a window, we could avoid situations where the document becomes weirdly unusable.

@kcase For example, Here I thought, "maybe I'll try columns", then thought, "ok, but the topic should be sized to fit", but without anything in the topic yet, it goes down to one checkbox size. So, "oh no, let's go back to the way it was!" but there is no going back.

Replying to
@kcase Maybe there could be a compromise preference to anchor the columns to the sides of the windows?

@kcase And it seems to me that at no point should the columns not take up the entire area of the window. The columns should be anchored to the left and right side of the window.

@danielpunkass@mastodon.social I get what you're saying about AI's coding capabilities and the creativity required to make it actually good. I'm curious what you think of the environmental impact of AI?
