@siderea In contrast to your biology teacher, I remember a bit from one of those endlessly long geology articles they used to run in The New Yorker. I think the one I’m thinking of was by Wallace Stegner. He said that humans can clear cut trees and such, but the only place in the US that bounces back from that easily is New England. New Hampshire at high altitudes not so much, but otherwise it’s pretty fertile soil in many places. My garden is great. No trees have been there for along time.

@analogfusion I guess it’s been studied? I wonder if there are patterns you could draw on a regular N95 that would confound. I also saw, when Wegman’s was in the news for doing facial recognition in stores, there were IR reflecting hats that flood the cameras.

@seachanger@alaskan.social The other part of this that most people don’t know is that doctors spend a significant chunk of their workday, or more like off the clock time, fighting with insurance companies for pretty much anything at all for patients. One time at a meditation retreat I was chatting with an orthopedic doc. I said to him, “At least broken bones are clear cut, and you don’t have to fight with insurance companies.” He said, “I have to fight for every bone I set.”

@Nonya_Bidniss@infosec.exchange I’ve never taken it, but I’ve known people who have. Everyone who took it did so for Giardia. My sense of it all was along the lines of, “Giardia was really bad. And then I had to take Flagyl!” I’ve always thought Flagyl was just for parasite infections, but I don’t know anything.
