The preview mechanism on MyFonts seems to center each glyph vertically in its square, making for a rather jarring presentation. Example: Van Dijck.

@letterror@typo.social @typographica@typo.social I’ve been to about half a dozen type conferences between 1998 and 2004, had the pleasure of meeting dozens of type designers, if not over a hundred, and I don’t recognize a single one of the people in charge at Monotype, nor can I find a single one of them who has ever drawn or even kerned a typeface.

Font detective work is in the news again, this time faked screenshots accusing Ben Shapiro of writing bigoted remarks about Candace Owens.
Casually looking around for an 1867 printing of the Divine Comedy with Dorés engravings at original size, I chanced upon this 1938 printing from Berlin with a rather ghoulish dedication page, but more interestingly, some kind of uncial grotesk attempt in the body type. Elsewhere some Walbaum and what might be Genzsch-Antiqua.

@stewf The simplest way to build more housing is zoning moratoriums. We have a residential housing “crisis” while entire office parks sit empty. People can live in converted strip malls, skyscrapers, and every building in between. No tax dollars necessary, just relinquish some control.
I don’t know if it’s edit wars, something else, or some combination, but the quality of Wikipedia has been deteriorating for years, and Musk’s fork Grokipedia is now in the ascendant. Compare articles on: Scangraphic, Otto Hupp, Gerrit Noordzij, 3-Quinuclidinyl benzilate, Ditran, Adobe Framemaker, kalmia latifolia. The one area where Wikipedia wins is illustrations (Grokipedia 0.2 currently has none.) I suspect Grokipedia 1.0 will have illustrations.
I just noticed that GhostScript seems to have somehow changed its license from GPL to commercial, which I never imagined possible with GPL. (I’m partial to MIT/BSD-style licenses for FOSS.) And I could swear it’s not the first I’ve spotted recently. What other free software software is suddenly being fed after midnight?
“Calligraphy” is the name of the top luxury trim available on the 2026 Hyundai Palisade. Which essentially comes across the way Doug Demuro pronounces it.
You might be impersonating a police officer if you’re also impersonating a font.
I just found this tech rabbit hole that is no doubt of interest to some font folks, even though there’s no strict font content I can spot.
Despite all the hysterical complaints about AI and data centers, I will never tire of AI-generated Adventures of JD Vance.
Stylebot is half of what I’ve been searching for for years: a simple tool that lets me change all text on Wikipedia from Arial to Castoro or any other font.
And then I learned about “Specificity Wars.” Which is why it doesn’t work at all on here, or on X, and Facebook and Wikipedia need several passes, and then still some of the older font remains.

@db@typo.social Start with the Scangraphic example. Wikipedia’s article is next to useless. And if you dig into the edit histories on numerous Wikipedia articles, a good portion of the edits are themselves done by “bots.” How is Grokipedia any different in that regard? How is Wikipedia “verified” or “vetted” these days, and was it truly ever?
