RE: https://techhub.social/@gluonhq/116963571418996039

Important: we (Gluon) provide all those builds (with CPU patches) for free. We love JavaFX and the community, but it's a fair amount of work to do this. If you benefit from these builds, you may consider supporting us by:

  1. buy LTS subscriptions (even if you can download them for free)
  2. contact us for T&M work
  3. spread this news

Thanks for keeping JavaFX a community effort.

Tomorrow, Gluon will release JavaFX 26 builds. I'm very proud of our team, and the whole JavaFX community, for the great work that has been done since we started working on JavaFX 11. Out of nostalgy, I was reading an old blog post: https://gluonhq.com/javafx-11-release-and-support-plans/
About 8 years ago, not many believed that we would continue and succeed. But we didn't give up.

How can I filter away the "WOW, my LLM wrote some code that millions of developers wrote before and now I can do it too without being smart"-messages and instead focus on posts where humans tackle real, unsolved, hard and barely documented problems?

RE: @gluonhq@techhub.social

Maintaining LTS versions for a project like JavaFX is complex and resource-intensive. It requires a fair amount of the Gluon resources, but it is extremely important to keep JavaFX secure, modern and relevant.

RE: @CommonGround_2048@mastodon.social

Fantastic work! Java and JavaFX are extremely suitable for many end-to-end applications, bridging the gap between user-friendly applications and enterprise data platforms.

RE: @gluonhq@techhub.social

Java and JavaFX apps are often long-lived apps, requiring Long-Term support of Java(/FX).
Maintaining LTS releases is a complex, resource-intensive process. Gluon delivers JavaFX LTS builds for free, making JavaFX supported and safe on many configurations.
Your company can support us in doing this.

JavaFX 26 SDKs are available, maven artifacts are being published (but it seems to be a busy publishing day ;) )

In the early days, many people has a list of "interesting links" on their "homepage". If I wanted to know something, I visited the homepage of someone in that field I trust, and followed his links.
Today, with the top results of search engines being AI slop or short videos, I find it much harder to find what I'm looking for.

RE: @gluonhq@techhub.social

We can help you with your JavaFX Application. Contact Gluon if you want a quick scan, advice, troubleshooting,...
It's not hard to create a UI in Java -- but it's often helpful to get tailored advice from the experts (we learned many things the hard way ;) )

The problem is not that there isn't enough great code. I believe the problem is rather there is far too much bad and hard-to-maintain code.

I see lots of initiatives educating children, older people, and less educated groups about phishing, deepfakes, crypto fraud, malicious content on social media etc.
While often done with the best intentions, I believe it is the wrong approach. I think we should rather fix the crap we created, and prevent even more crap from being created.
