I had rented an eMTB, and that was good. Here we were riding up to the head of "Heart Break Ridge", a rocky trail between Aboyne and Ballater. Our friend's motor has just died, and he had to go back down. #MTB

Further down, trails often went through nice light woods. Still: heather everywhere.

Heart Break Ridge, seen from the hill across the valley. That is where we came riding down. Rocks, slabs, rocks, more rocks, more slabs. Unreal! I'm also impressed the bikes mostly survived. The rattling is brutal.

Trails in Scotland seem to be mostly rock. Over here, in CH, rocks are limestone. Super slippy when wet. Over there, they are granite and not slippy. It took time for me to trust them... The is Heart Break Ridge, a popular trail.

#WasWirWollen

After going up the actual "Horrible Hill", we always sat down, bcs we had to. And even on the Orox, I wasn't able to do it in Tour mode. Here we are comparing bike sizes, and we are both surprised that the Orox is not _taht much_ longer than a Spesh Levo SL, and that the head angle is very slightly slacker. Ts... #Fatbike

If you ever need to know: the chain on an L sized Tern Orox is 152 links long. Pretty sure that's not something sold, so I need two and potentially run 2 quick links. And If I buy 2 126 link chains, the second can be used for pieces 4 times, and I will have 22 left at the end. Grr If I get a 138 as the second, I can use it 5 times and have 8 left. Or I get 138 as the 1st, then I need 14 links extra, and 9*14 is 126, meaning I can get a 126 for "topping up" and have exactly the right number!

We were lucky in that we were able to roll most of the way to Rodersdorf, where the tram line 10 was actually just standing there, as if waiting for us. We boarded, and it left 2 minutes later. Public transport in Switzerland, the best!

We went on (well, I pushed up 20m, then rolled) to the next fire road, then stopped and looked at options. A bike w/o a chain is like the saddest thing! 85Nm of power, 80% battery, but there is NOTHING it can do!

@PaulaToThePeople@climatejustice.social I find that question very difficult. My intuition is super present, and I think I use it _a lot_. Example: my maths skills are almost entirely intuitive, and I did go through university like that. But I feel that a lot of it may actually be cognition, at a speed or level that makes it _feel like_ intuition. So I clicked intuition, but I am really not sure.

Ah! They are planning to then do a show where they react! "Welcome to '[] debunked'. Today, we discuss the latest episode of our stupid father's show. So, ..." This is BK1 & BK2. They do not want BK3 on the show because - "you have no attention span and your 'on the spot argumentative skills' are not good enough". So, BK3 is allowed to make a third show, likely named "Why are we still here?" or "Anyway..." where she reacts to both our shows, and asks people for donations so she can get out.

Jeff was riding his Levo SL, meaning that up any hills, I had a lot more power. That, in turn, got me to try and ride as much as possible in Eco.

Just after, the trail has a little dip, with another steep up. I pushed up in eMTB mode, without shifting down, and when I reached the top, my chain sounded weird and slipped between gears. But it worked in higher gears, so we continued. ~1km further, on the next steep part, it snapped. My guess is that one side of the piece that snapped had gone the first time, then the other half couldn't last. Bugger!

We rode the tram to Oberwil, then Jeff tried pulling me up the hill, but Hohlegasse is too steep, and so I ended up pushing the bike, and then I desperately needed a shower when I came home. Next step: get a new chain, or mabe two, because this one is _really_ long! https://fitpub.social/activities/fcba16a7-e7e3-4a1f-b8bd-10d3014764db Still a good ride!

Q for Android/Kotlin devs: The Navigation 3 Code Recipes github has two interesting recipes for me: "Saveable back stack" https://github.com/android/nav3-recipes/blob/main/app/src/main/java/com/example/nav3recipes/basicsaveable and "Hilt - Modularized navigation code" https://github.com/android/nav3-recipes/blob/main/app/src/main/java/com/example/nav3recipes/modular/hilt

I need a combo of the 2: modularized navigation with Hilt, plus saveable back stack, but I can for the life of me not understand how to use rememberNavBackStack() in the Hilt scenario, where the navigator class is defined in a module.

Any ideas?

@eighthave@social.librem.one Fully agree! I guess it is somewhat difficult for an independent dev to do the scaffolding needed, but as long as you build "small" software, it may not have to be as complex as creating an organisation. Is the question then simply: how do we know which "entities" are trusted and how do we make sure, a particular piece of code is "from that entity"?

@eighthave@social.librem.one I'm guessing there are different levels and maybe conflicting aspects? Anonymity on the dev side versus a need to trust on the users', and then the need to trust may be more or less strong depending on what the software does? (not an expert, just not happy about what Google is doing right now, and so musing as a way to not be hopeless)

We rode the trail to St Brice, which is often too muddy, but since it hasn't really rained in months, it is currently bone dry and pretty fast. (Hence no photos) On the way back, we both realised that we had done enough climbing for the day and were looking for the least climb-y way back.

@Erased_Citizen@cupoftea.social @girlonthenet@mastodon.social So, my brain now comes up with the idea that there must be places where neighbours can meet in secrecy, to avoid being deported. Those places may be damp, confined, dark, and always feeling a little unsafe, with the police on the hunt and all, but they're the places where you can meet the most exceptional people, if you're brave enough! Or something like that.

Earlier today, I felt the need to ride the fat bike again. Jeff was available, and so we left for France, to ride what we call "Horrible Hill". This is just after the last bit of said hill, when I had to sit down for a moment and wait for my heart rate to come back down. I had briefly hit 191. #MTB #Fatbike #AfternoonRide@jexner@fitpub.social
