A guy came back from the dead and now I eat him. Once rented a hamster. High-fived a whale. Mr. Hooper is my hero.

Profile picture description: the head and shoulders of a white man wearing a suit. His facial expression is neutral. His eyes are blue. His trimmed brown hair is receding. He has a full beard and mustache, both also trimmed.

Header description: An agape possum face in a helmet from the movie "2001: A Space Odyssey".

In light of the Internet Archive losing its appeal to hachette, I just wanted to point out some websites you should avoid:

* https://annas-archive.li/
* https://downmagaz.net/
* https://ebook-hunter.org/
* https://forcoder.net/
* https://freemagazines.top/
* https://liber3.eth.limo/

If you were to download books from these websites, you might cut into hachette's more than three billion dollars of annual revenue. So make sure to avoid those websites and the following:

* https://libgen.is/
* https://oceanofpdf.com/
* https://pdfroom.com/
* https://pdfstop.com/
* https://pdfdrive.to/
* https://pdfmagazines.club/
* https://sci-hub.se/
* https://singlelogin.re/
* ... or any of the other sites listed at https://rentry.co/megathread-books

@valpackett@social.treehouse.systems counterpoint: MS would love to have greater levels of control over what software can be installed on machines. My guess is that the reason these things are as lax as they are is because customers (particularly enterprise IT) are wary of this. Having a law would give them a convenient excuse to do what they already want to do.

@ben cruelty is a show of entrenched power and hierarchy. It may be going a little too far to say that cruelty is the point, but it's certainly desired. Another question I have is: if something isn't at some level cruel, why would you need power to do it? If people are indifferent to something, why would they oppose it?

@cutesobri@cathode.church the keys in this instance are public keys used for authentication. Extracting them doesn't help at all, you need the private counterparts which are likely kept under physical lock & key
