We spent nine months surveying local seagrass meadows. Then we made a traditional taverna tablecloth map showing the seagrass alongside rivers, wildlife, and ecological info. Now we've distributed it to restaurants across the island for the summer season. Pretty damn proud of this piece of work.
Saw a peregrine falcon in a city square, soaring and pecking at its kill. Only my son and I saw it, and we sat on the kerb and stared until it swooped away. Two hours later I'm still buzzing, unable to sleep. This world.
Thinking about this too much, so just putting it here: a friend sent me this screenshot, saying "I don't know if this is fake news, but would be a great idea if real" and, yeah, that does look fake - those are AI-generated owls (this world, man).
Del Toro! Pogacar! Carapaz! Vingegaard! It's going to be a great three weeks.
Iran is home to some of the oldest and most ingenious water distribution networks in the world, the qanat systems of underground aqueducts. Worth whatever prayers you indulge in as the USA viciously destroys desalination plants and other critical infrastructure. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Qanat
Fuck it, think I'm going to try and see the Tour live this year. There are two Alpe d'Huez stages, July 24 and 25. Anyone with tour experience and/or local knowledge got tips on campsites, viewing spots, party villages, etc?Kid-friendly important - sadly won't attempt the summit in the saddle...
A reader sends me this, as my trap for autonomous cars becomes something like reality. Swiss political campaign posters urging a lower speed limit appear to trigger self-driving vehicles to actually slow down to that speed: https://www.srf.ch/news/schweiz/tempo-30-abstimmungsplakate-bremsen-unbeabsichtigt-autos-aus
I still remember first seeing, and have never forgotten, Kae Tempest perform in a little bar in Soho twenty years ago. An extraordinary artist. https://www.theguardian.com/culture/2026/apr/18/kae-tempest-on-creativity-and-his-gender-transition-im-just-glad-to-be-alive
This summer the big panic in Greece (apart from the wildfires) is the pufferfish, Lagocephalus sceleratus, which has been around for a while, but has surged in numbers this year. It's all over Facebook as everyone heads to the beaches, and I've seen them every time I swim.

Alan Warburton remains one of the few Real Ones. As well as making his own brilliant work, he's incisive on the dangers of AI - it's never going to replace artists, but it is going to suffocate them and destroy creative livelihoods. https://www.theguardian.com/film/2026/apr/20/grimes-linkedin-ai-nvidia
Rock rose and lavender and some kind of orchid. Collected lots of wild asparagus too. It's a good day if the little dog is all tuckered out.
“Media coexist,” Kirsop says. “These modern forms only continue to be in existence and usable if the hardware continues … Whereas the printed book is still here... All you need is a weatherproof room to put it in and natural light to read it.” https://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/2026/mar/22/melbourne-rare-books-expert-wallace-kirsop
And the swallows are back, coming at us head-height down the street, and whipping away over the rooftops, just when we needed them most. Τα χελιδόνια είναι εδώ!
I'm giving a talk at TU Delft on Saturday. Will be around for a couple of days if anyone has interesting tips, or does cool stuff and wants to share. https://www.tudelft.nl/evenementen/2026/sg/03-mar/digital-revolt
Another long, angry email from the director of a powerful German institution telling me they will no longer exhibit my work because they believe in dialogue.

Apropos of nothing, remembering a briefing from the head of cybersecurity at the RAF, who said the two times Britain had been closest to disaster since the Second World War were Able Archer 83 and the fuel protests which blockaded refineries in 2000.
We're in the final days of fundraising for The Only Flowering Plant in the Ocean, our project to take seagrass, local clay, and some regenerative energy to the Venice Biennale. We'd love to put your name on one of our crates! https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/the-only-flowering-plant-in-the-ocean#/
