@dalfen@mstdn.social apparently, the initial reports were not accurate as the tankers were indeed heading south towards #yemen where they got threatened THEN turned around and went north via Suez canal. this can cause real problems to Saudi (and Asia) because Suez canal can handle certain tanker sizes. otherwise, they'd get partially offloaded via #SuMed pipeline, go through the canal, then reloaded again. in addition to the longer route. all this adds time and costs for the shipment from #Saudi to #Asia

@Nonilex according to Iran experts in alarabiya news channel (saudi funded media group), the narrative is the other way around. It was #mojtaba #khamenei who brought the current leadership of #irgc since 2019. He's been in preparation to take over the leadership anyway. Also, internally, Iranian are not disputing him as supreme leader They question his whereabouts, but not his authority. It's deeply cultural not just political or opportunistic.

My theory is that #trump backed off due to #iran attacks. #centcom didn't issue a statement at first, then stated that US navy ships came under sustained attack from Iran, that war ships had to respond and shut down 6 (or 7 acc. to trump) speed boats while deploying defense systems, attack aircrafts...etc to fend it off. I believe the situation was much bigger than reported that caused trump to realize that his "project freedump" not gonna fly

I believe the taxes would then be calculated based on the higher price. In germany, price changes in certain sectors (eg transportation) must be announced 3 months in advance...etc. there are practical and legal ways to prevent predatory pricing.

@karsbehr according to media reports, this is not new types of missiles. It's just Iran reduced the warhead in order to increase the range. Of course this becomes problematic if the warhead is more explosive (e.g. nuclear or chemical)
