I’m Toshisada Utsunomiya, Japanese — an independent researcher on time, power, and souls; a ronin by choice.
My life’s mission is to make this world a little better, and to pass it on to the next generation. As part of that work, my paper “What Is a Soul?” offers one formal answer to a question humanity has asked for millennia. Second Physics is the framework I developed to make that answer mathematically explicit. In Second Physics, Śūnyatā and enlightenment are not left as private experience:

The paper argues that the trajectory of the U.S.–Iran war is constrained less by battlefield capability than by political time:
elections, media framing, public consent, and defining power.

It examines how continued war may impose responsibility burdens on future generations and reduce future-generation response capacity.

Measured against the Six Secret Teachings and the Three Strategies, such bat-like diplomacy is not the diplomacy of a true centre. In Mencian terms, it is neither kingly rule nor hegemony properly understood, but something smaller. The tragedy is that a party-state speaking of “National Rejuvenation” still has not inherited the deeper statecraft of Chinese civilisation.

This paper looks at the U.S. midterms and the Iran war through one central question: who gets to define modern conflict?

It also examines the transition from the Westphalian order towards a settlement order grounded in responsibility, energy circulation, and enforceable stability.

May this war come to an end as soon as possible, and may as many lives as possible be spared.

I also wish to remember those who have lost their lives in this war, the soldiers on both sides who have been drawn into it, and the vulnerable people whose ordinary lives remain in danger.
May peace and repose return to the peoples of the Middle East.

Qin unified Zhonghua approximately 2,246 years ago. Yet China still seeks centrality from within a Westphalian framework only 378 years old. Here lies one of the deepest ironies of the contemporary Chinese condition: even Europe has struggled towards a post-Westphalian form through the EU, while Beijing still stands on the side of defensive sovereignty.

I have published a new blog post:
“The Miracle of Accumulation: A Lesson from Tissue Paper”
Consistency is not magic. It does not guarantee that every repeated effort will succeed.
The point is narrower, but important: when repetition compounds, a small beginning can grow into a result far beyond its original scale.
This article makes that point mathematically through a tissue-paper doubling calculation.

Muguet (lily of the valley) — Thé Porte-Bonheur, a tea of good fortune.
Mariage Frères’ Lily Muguet, brewed today.
I can’t share the fragrance in a photo, but I can share this rare blue hue — and a little luck.

As a Japanese, I cannot treat occupation as an abstract thought experiment.
My own family lost its domain about 400 years ago. It had existed for nearly 500 years and was sustained by retainers and the people who lived there.
Even after four centuries, I have met descendants of those retainers, and I know that the consequences of a nation’s fall do not simply disappear with time.
That is why I do not speak lightly about occupation or national collapse.
