Yes. Especially when software is imposed on students. Recently visited a Danish university who pushed students onto MATLAB instead of GNU Octave. So those students will be biased and dependent on commercial software from a young age.
I have been wondering: why isn’t there a single #jazz station in #Brussels? What’s wrong with this city? Turns out, there WAS. #CroozeFM¹ shutdown. There is lots of pop, 80s, classical… AFAIK not a single replacement for Crooze. #RadioPanik is perhaps to closest to it. 1→ https://radiowereld.nl/dab/2024/05/vlaanderen-crooze-stopt-15-mei-met-uitzenden/?sfw=pass1739031703
@ruettet@mas.to @fediversity@mastodon.fediversity.eu idk, but tor-hostile site #distrowatch gives a way to search a large number of distros on whether a specific pkg is included. Would be nice if there were an open resource that would do that.
Phone booths are gone in #Brussels. Public payphones ended in 2014, but private ones that were in convenience stores lingered for longer. Recently I find none. Did anyone use one in the past 10 years? What was the cost? #askBrussels #askBelgium
How can you cash a cheque in #Belgium if your own bank has no cheque services? Can anyone go to the issuing bank to get a cheque cashed? #askBelgium
Is it possible to buy a cheap one-off prepaid visa/mastercard in #Brussels? Sure, bPost has one good for 1 year but it costs €18. Fuck that. Can’t I just buy one that is pre-loaded with €10 or something for a more reasonable price? Shorter life is fine. #askBrussels
@HennaVirkkunen@ec.social-network.europa.eu FYI, your 2 links treat Tor users with hostility (403 forbidden). The EU’s own web resources are increasingly becoming access restricted.
@ruettet@mas.to Interesting. I’m looking to keep my fingers warm at the keyboard without heating the whole room. That pushes my budget for sure but looks like the right tool for the job.
Also makes me think a big well-stocked pharmacy might have them, since they are used for pain relief.
