Small update on a huge big fat upcoming update:
The new OpenType and text shaping support is almost ready to be released. I'm ironing out some wrinkles in advanced GPOS support, but overall this is working very well, and I am extremely excited to put this out soon.
Ongoing kudos to @khaled@typo.social for contributing essential functionality and providing test cases and domain expertise.
Today's Fontra Pak release is no joke!
Highlights:
- New shaping/OT feature debugger (in the "Input characters and output glyphs" panel)
- Improved browser tab management (reuse existing tabs where possible and where useful)
- Added .woff2 export option (contributed by @mitradranirban@typo.social)

(Note that the lookup items work like folders, and you can expand them by clicking on the chevron icon, or with the arrow-right key, and step through the individual steps that each lookup performs.)

@behdad it is using parts of fontc to compile a shaper font on the fly. So we’ve got JavaScript, C++ and Rust running peacefully together in the browser!

@TiroTypeworks @khaled I think fontmake does an educated guess, but yes, there are some gaps in the functionality here. Previewing compiled TTF or OTF should work, though, similar to FontGoggles.

(I'm afraid the text boxes don't dynamically resize as intended on Firefox and older Safaris, as these don't support the handy but new-ish field-sizing: content CSS bit.)
Help Wanted: Windows users seem to prefer a proper installer over a loose .exe from a .zip archive. I'm not enough of a Windows user/developer to make this a reality. Can I nerd-snipe anyone into contributing? https://github.com/fontra/fontra-pak/issues/209

@rajeesh @frankrolf @justvanrossum @lianghai FWIW, I contributed my list to the https://github.com/schriftgestalt/GlyphsInfo (after indeed consulting with Vaishnavi Murthy), so these names will be available in Glyphs app and Fontra soon.
