Fidus Writer
semantic open source collaborative academic writing tool. https://www.fiduswriter.org
Try this tool on your bibliography files (or ODT/DOCX with citations). Does it read your citations correctly? If not, let us know what isn't working. https://fiduswriter.github.io/biblatex-csl-converter/
The next feature for Fidus Writer 4.1 is ready - import of embedded citations (ODT: @jabref@foojay.social and @zotero@fosstodon.org DOCX: Zotero, Mendeley, Citavi, Endnote). And export of embedded citations to both. And import of different source types into the reference collection (Zotero, Mendeley, PBIB, RIS, Citavi XML). We have documented our (still incomplete) research on formats, so that others also can add such features to their apps: https://github.com/fiduswriter/biblatex-csl-converter/blob/main/CITATIONS_IN_DOCS.md
Help needed! We are working on creating a general citation import filter. So we need ODT/DOCX files containing citations that were created with EndNote, Mendeley, Citavi, Paperpile... and any other citation manager you like to use. The converter will also be available for other open source citation management tools. Please send us your sample files! mail@fiduswriter.org
First large feature for Fidus Writer 4.1 ready - Two-factor authentication (2FA) support has been merged!

Fidus Writer 4.0 has been released - full announcement: https://www.fiduswriter.org/2025/04/05/fidus-writer-4-0-a-decades-largest-update-brings-powerful-import-export-features-and-accessibility/

Another feature for Fidus Writer 4.1 is done: Giving access rights of different levels to others by sharing a link - without having to create an account.
In the coming months we'll work on splitting the Fidus Writer frontend into multiple parts that can be used as plugins in other software.
As a first step, we have this proof of concept: The Fidus Writer editor (nothing else) on top of a lightweight node back:
https://github.com/fiduswriter/fiduswriter-frontend-poc
Fidus Writer 4 has been released! Biggest release in a decade! Improved exports (including tracked changes/commemts to ODT/DOCX and exports into several new formats), the first ever document import (including Zotero support when importing ODT), accessibility improvemenrs, etc. Stay tunes for packaged snap version and release announcement (around Monday).
Finally - we can now export entire books as DOCX/ODT files. That is great when you want to move an entire project to another workflow that requires more editing, or just want a quick overview of all the comments and tracked changes that still have not been resolved in the entire book. Wait for the next release of Fidus Writer coming this Fall!
Next step in our filter development - export entire books to BITS/JATS XML. Will be part of next major Fidus Writer release. #JATS #XML
Thanks for the opportunity to work on this to @nlnet@social.nlnet.nl @NGIZero@mastodon.xyz @EC_NGI
Finally - Fidus Writer obtains an import function. For most file types conversion is done using #pandoc For #ODT files we'll have our own native importer so that we can import comments and @zotero@fosstodon.org citations.
Finally done! The next version of Fidus Writer will have initial keyboard navigation support and color contrasts as recommended by #WCAG #accessibility
Fidus Writer 4.1 beta 1 is out and it includes an end-to-end encryption mode. Security experts please have a look.
Started to create a manual for the upcoming FW 4.0 release. First chapter is on how to create export templates to export documents and books to ODT and DOCX. What other aspect require explaining? Unfortunately, not everything can be made to be understood intuitively.
