Buffalonian stuck in SoCal

Professor teaching GenBio, Marine Biology, Oceanography, Microbiology, and Zoology at a Community College.

My research speciality is marine microbiology, focusing on harmful algal bloom ecology. I still manage a HAB monitoring citizen science project in SoCal, but my day to day life is currently devoted to working on increasing STEM student success with active learning pedagogy.

I don't create original posts often, but I read every day, and boost what I enjoy.

@Ashedryden GI doc a few months ago “would you mind if I used AI transcription for this visit?” Rheumatologist this week “I’m going to use AI to transcribe our visit, ok?” Both got the response of no, rheumatologist very clearly surprised and annoyed I said no. GI doc at least phrased the request in the proper manner! (I’m in California)

@skinnylatte@hachyderm.io When I interned at an aquarium and would clean the sea lion area every morning, there was one particular sea lion that would not want to move until ABSOLUTELY necessary. Her name was Julie, but this tendency to hold her head high and refuse all direction earned her the nickname "Princess". Training included how exactly to push the bucket towards Princess to get her off her rock perch on the stage so that you could clean.
