Last night, Cedar City had an agenda item to renew their Flock contract. The public backlash was so strong they punted for two weeks on what would have otherwise been a routine renewal. Showing up works, and tell the doomers to zip it. #utpol
You know your #homelab is well-designed when it all comes back up cleanly after a power outage with zero intervention.
A visual representation of why you should empty all of the pots in your container garden and then refill them prior to planting. Soil compaction is real and bad. #gardening
You don't have too much zucchini, you have too little imagination.
Cedar City is bragging about... this. A new parking lot, with zero landscaping or shade, on the lot directly across from Main Street Park. What an utter waste of prime downtown real estate all to avoid a block or two of walking for a few hundred people maybe half a dozen times a year.
It's a special level of delulu to look at the ethnic cleansing project that is MAGA and think "we can find a reasonable middle ground". #utpol https://www.deseret.com/politics/2026/08/03/governors-ask-congress-to-grant-states-authority-to-issue-migrant-work-visas/
Got the main garden boxes planted today. Tomatoes, zucchini, summer squash, sweet potatoes, dill, basil. Still need to seed green beans and add in some cucumbers. #gardening

@GossiTheDog@cyberplace.social The bailout is already underway, and not from who you probably expected either.

Power has been restored in the Ashdown Forest/Fiddlers Canyon area (north side of Cedar). RMP has warned us that it might go off again tomorrow for similar reasons. Charge ALL THE THINGS! #utwx
I hope this #gardening plan isn't too ambitious.

Power out AGAIN in Cedar City. A storm blew through which downed power lines near Canyon View HS and started some fires (reportedly lightning). #utwx
You'd be forgiven for thinking that this is lazy parent dinner, but Cora requested olives, refried beans, and raw broccoli with ranch. #dadlife

@mikecastro@mastodon.world It's kind of a running joke that most people who grow zucchini end up with far more than they can eat to the point that they try to give it away to everyone they know.
My wife gets me.
I did the math on the giant datacenter proposal in Box Elder County. To generate 9GW of electricity, you'd need somewhere around 600B cf of natural gas. The total usage for the entire state is 286B cf. I think we know how that will affect our home heating costs. #utpol

We need a new judicial philosophy: strict reconstructionist.
I'm doing that thing again where I overlevel doing side quests so that the main story line isn't all that challenging at all, this time on Horizon: Forbidden West. "Ooo, here's that super scary snapjaw! What now, Aloy?" *cheeses through it with a fully upgraded rare bow*
I am 100% here for this. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H-43VeYGiPM

LLM-assisted vulnerability hunting is going to lead to an absolute cratering of payments on vuln reports. Nobody is going to drop $10K on clanker-found bugs.
I know that gas-powered yard tools are supposed to be "better", but the convenience of "grab and go" makes electric the winner. Keeping those small engines happy and following the 27-step start instructions is just dumb.
First time on an A321! Compared to the 737s I'm used to, the cabin feels much more open and spacious.
When you have too many chiles, you make enchilada sauce. And when you have too much enchilada sauce and too many zucchini, you make zucchini enchiladas.
Brandon Beckham got what he deserved. Remains to be seen if he will face charges for what sounds like sexual abuse of his lawyer who was representing him in the original sexual abuse charges. #utpol https://www.ksl.com/article/51606553/jury-convicts-former-utah-senate-candidate-in-sexual-abuse-trial
I've done plenty of laptop keyboard replacements in my time, and the Dell G5 5587 is one of the WORST. I had to remove around 80 screws to do the swap. In many other cases, you can swap one without a single screw.

Last year, tickets sold out in under 24 hours. This year, attendees from last year will get to skip the line and buy early which probably means they will sell out by EOD. Don't sit around relying on hopium!

Hey friends. You know that pile of old tech gadgets you have sitting in the corner that you want to get rid of? We've got you covered! Come to the @SAINTCON@infosec.exchange Swap Meet on Tuesday October 27 at 6PM to unload all that old homelab gear collecting dust. https://saintcon.org/events/swap-meet/

@Nshrubs@mstdn.social I'm looking at whole home battery backup plus a generator. This is happening several times a year now.

@QueerMatters@mstdn.social I've trusted many, though I mostly buy SAS. The ewaste resellers are generally reputable and sell drives by the thousands.
But yeah, those prices... oof. $7-8/TB was normal a couple years ago.
Looks like Iron County may introduce a 180 day moratorium on data centers, data center power plants, and (for some odd reason) solar power plants. #utpol
Funny thing about gas, the inflation-adjusted average price right now is about the same as it was in 2005. Aside from the last few years, the cost has been on a downward trend. You're not mad about gas prices, you're mad about inflation. https://www.usinflationcalculator.com/gasoline-prices-adjusted-for-inflation/

As He died to make men holy let us live to make men free.
There's a location in Horizon: Forbidden West that is obviously meant to be a reference to the long-gone Imperial Palace in Las Vegas, and boy was it a TRIP to read about the guy who owned the place.
I have been building PCs for over three decades, and it took months of "this CPU is running way hotter than it should with an AIO cooler" before I cracked open the case, pulled off the CPU block... and realized I did not remove the plastic sitting on the bottom of it.
Major power outage in Cedar City. No stated cause yet, estimated restoration is 6PM.
Zucchini parm, and pesto spaghetti. Zucchini, basil, and tomatoes from the garden.

@Nshrubs@mstdn.social It was enough to wet the concrete, but that's about it. Hopefully that's just a weak opening act!
#SAINTCON sold out in under half an hour this year. 🤯
Part of that is probably the preregistration system for prior attendees. That was a nice touch to make sure anyone returning had a shot.

@mikecastro@mastodon.world Black beauty zucchini. Lots of blossoms and developing fruits too. Unlike many people who grow them, we actually use everything we get.
Finished the main story of Horizon: Forbidden West tonight. Such an amazing game with rich characters and a compelling plot. Eager to finish the Burning Shores DLC, but also super angry at Sony for deciding that future installments will likely be exclusive to PlayStation. Jerks.

@carthuun@gamepad.club The trailer even cracks the joke that the film is only being released for accounting purposes. It is fully self-aware of its own history.
