Oh, the sad irony! Mile for mile, the Lower Thames Crossing (LTC) is likely to be more expensive than HS2. The latest LTC current cost estimate is at least £11 billion for 14.3 miles of ‘smart’ motorway and tunnel. #rail #roads #infrastructure #HS2 https://transportactionnetwork.org.uk/lower-thames-crossing-repeats-hs2-mistakes-and-costs-more-per-mile/

This is an excellent post / case study and a lot here for even ‘experienced’ family historians to learn. #genealogy #histodons @genealogy@fedigroups.social @histodons@fedigroups.social

A small cross from the Nidderdale Museum, Pateley Bridge, #NorthYorkshire Caption: A stone cross inscribed "Cross of St Ceadda" (Chad) dating from the 10th or 11th century was found at Middlesmoor. Chad was a prominent 7th-century #AngloSaxon monk. He was an abbot, Bishop of the Northumbrians and then Bishop of the Mercians and Lindsey People.

@david_castleton Brookwood Cemetery is well worth a visit. The railway route through the grounds can easily be traced and the platforms remain. Brookwood station remains open to trains from Waterloo. The former Anglican chapel in the grounds is now an Orthodox Monastery and houses the (disputed) remains of King Edward the Martyr (c.962-978).

@flup Oh, I am sorry. I'd try the USB stick option first. Then find an old laptop to practice on. Make a full Windows backup so you know you can start over.

@L_howes@mastodon.social Yes, I've noticed this trait of ChatGPT. I asked it to compile a bibliography for me thinking it might be a helpful short-cut and something it might be able to do. What a laugh, it creates plausible titles and attaches them to various authors in the subject area.

@flup Alternatively just use something like Puppy Linux which will happily run from a USB. I do have dual boot on an Acer laptop but could never get a HP one to behave, so I guess it's all quite hardware dependent. So try reading up on your brand of laptop, even the model series to see if anyone has already done it. #Linux #DualBoot
