A 3-foot-tall acer and a camera without an articulating screen were not the best combination to try to achieve this photograph.
I still can’t help but take a photo of this tree every time I walk past it.
All of these guys are doing a terrific job of blocking my garden path.
I can’t complain about the mist/cloud situation either.

Not every Venice street is narrow or watery.
I watched for over a year while a field was being prepared for… something, then this friendly guy appeared one day. He always comes over to say “hi”.
The architecture is great everywhere though.
The real taxis of Venice - they’re _a lot_ of fun if you get them to the airport and back so they can really open them up.

There are a lot of video-first people who seem overly confident that Resolve getting a photo editing mode means that everyone is suddenly going to drop what they know and learn what “scopes” and “nodes” are.
Probably one of the most “classic” Venice views, the view from Ponte dell’Accademia.
One of the most interesting photography-related experiences I had in Venice was being handed an early-2010s Nikon compact by a couple of teenagers to take their photo.
I knew there was a trend for this but it was kind of cool to see teenagers running around without phones in their hands.
Back on “Le Chat” already, I think I just prefer the UI to the competitors too.
I’ll give GitHub credit for one thing with the Copilot billing change - they seem to have stopped offering Grok models.
NVIDIA aren’t at all worried about the AI bubble popping and leaving them with excess manufacturing capacity, nope, the general-purpose compute chip announcement is just a coincidence.
Writing “don’t perform this action” in an AI agent system prompt is the new version of “I only validate user input on the client-side”.

@rowan_johnson@mastodon.social That’s the impression I get but I’m not sure who is putting that much effort into one photo and not already deep into Lightroom, Photoshop and a layers-based workflow.
It’ll be nice to see it succeed in terms of competition but I’m yet to be convinced that photo editing benefits from the granularity of control being shown off.

At some point I’ll run out of photos from Venice to post but today is not that day.
Our garden is owned by the slugs and snails this year, there’s no hope for it.

SMB permission issues, looked fine when mounted locally however when check from the shell inside the Plex container files couldn’t be accessed.

Special characters in filenames caused by the SMB translation layer that converts macOS charset to Linux and vice-versa, the interesting thing about this one is that it would sometimes work if the file with the special character was accessed from outside Plex’s container first (usually from macOS) so the SMB cache was “hot”, then it could work until something rebooted or some time had passed - an indicator of this would be if it happens regularly to movies and shows with “!” or “?” in their names.

I re-subscribed to Claude assuming the poor answers I was getting from Mistral sometimes were down to it being a worse model but TBH, the world-knowledge stuff in Claude seems just as bad, even using it to help with tech support issues is pretty meh a lot of the time.
Just finished the first volume of Reflections from the https://photowalk.show podcast, definitely worth a read (and you should subscribe to the podcast too).

@neatnik@social.lol @gabz@social.lol @robb@social.lol @atog@social.lol TBH, I know why it’s a good thing, I know that I should do it and I know it’s not as inclusive when I don’t do it but for some reason I find stringing the words together to describe an image draining enough that it just put me off posting at all when I was trying my best to do it - even AI assisted the workflow kept me staring at the black mirror in my hand longer than I wanted to.
One of the reasons I cross-post images is that it seems to keep the Mastodon-alt-text police out of my mentions.
I also know this means some people won’t want to follow me, which is a choice people can make that I respect.
