The 2025 citybike season in Helsinki has come to an end last week. As an avid user of the bike sharing system, Robert Klein has plotted his more than 350 trips of this year's season on a map.

We would like to thank Professor Andrew Balmford and the Conservation Science Group, as well as the wider community in the David Attenborough building for being such wonderful hosts.

The popularity of outdoor recreation in Finland is growing and the ways
people move in nature are diversifying.
Together with Metsähallitus Parks and Wildlife Services we propose operationalizing the use of mobile big data for visitor monitoring and the management of outdoor recreation.
Our policy recommendations draw on our long-term research using digital footprints to understand recreation and nature conservation.

We have signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Metsähallitus Parks & Wildlife Finland to deepen our research cooperation and streamline the two-way sharing of data and knowledge.

🌳 🚴 🌳In GREENTRAVEL, we developed an in-house VR system to conduct VR cycling experiments into the wellbeing effects of urban street greenery during everyday cycling activities. We learnt a lot, documented the process in detail and now release that documentation openly for all.

Pop art dot distributions! Random points generated for the entire country, counties, municipalities and grid cells. One dot represents 1000 people.
For #30DayMapChallenge Day 29 "Population", @oleksa@mapstodon.space again mapped the effect of Russia's full-scale invasion over his native Lysychansk city, Sievierodonetsk and Rubizhne - now with decreased nighttime lights as a proxy of humanitarian crisis there since early 2022 (!)
