@ben@mastodon.bentasker.co.uk @1password@1password.social @deborahh@cosocial.ca I did the same thing this last weekend for exactly the same reason. I also got the same canned response from their support.

Replying to
@ben@mastodon.bentasker.co.uk @deborahh@cosocial.ca It was very disappointing, but not unexpected. But the fact that they had to make a prepared response means that many people must be complaining.

@david_chisnall@infosec.exchange @ChrisMayLA6@zirk.us Another point I didn’t see in the article, which may have an effect, is that Japanese companies normally pay the commuting fare of their employees. Fare increases that directly affect business will probably lead to political pressure… I am not sure about the regulator hiring from industry, but the reverse certainly used to be true. There is even a word for it “amakudari” or descent from heaven. Retiring bureaucrats went to cushy jobs in the industries they regulated. Another nice thing here is that the prices don’t change depending on time of day or day of the week. It is a fixed ticket price for the journey.

“The bottleneck is understanding the problem. No amount of faster typing fixes that.” Good article on how AI coding agents won’t speed up development since coding is generally not the bottleneck in the process. https://andrewmurphy.io/blog/if-you-thought-the-speed-of-writing-code-was-your-problem-you-have-bigger-problems

If you thought the speed of writing code was your problem - you have bigger problems | Andrew Murphy

AI coding tools are optimising the wrong thing and nobody wants to hear it. Writing code was already fast. The bottleneck is everything else: unclear requirements, review queues, terrified deploy cultures, and an org chart that needs six meetings to decide what colour the button should be.

@badnetmask @stephen We also use Taiga for some projects. If you are self hosting it can be a pain to set up because it has multiple different services. I use docker compose which makes not too bad. There are something like 9 different services in the compose file.

Got an international driving license today. Surprisingly smooth and quick, with very friendly and helpful staff. It did mean going all the way into Kyoto on a weekday. At least I didn’t have to go to the driving test centre which is in the middle of nowhere.

I just bought a new UniFi cloud gateway to replace the aging USG I had been using. At checkout there was a “memory surcharge“ added to the price. First time to see that so explicitly.

Seems like Amazon AWS is sending out false billing estimates. I just got an alert that the estimated bill would be $326,782,362.18. As I don’t actually use AWS the normal bill is 0.

Their support pages says they are having some issues with billing estimates.
