RE: @Aepasek@scholar.social

I have a chapter in this with the wonderful Yani Kong! (In this OPEN ACCESS and FREE BOOK) It's been a minute since the workshop that led to this book, and feeling distant from 2022 dawn. That said, I still dig our exploration of constraint through slow and decelerated media as we wrote together.

thanks @Aepasek@scholar.social for collecting and editing us.

I'm speaking at @fedicon in a few weeks about @coop but also zooming out to talk about #cooperative digital infrastructures and some of the challenges and delights of trying to build them together. If we haven't yet chatted about this topic, let's!

Another group is Oceans, or my most "dad book category" (lots in here but going with the last one I read, as there were no standouts) Seaweed: A Global History by Kaori O'Connor

My favourite part of the garden so far this year are all the #mushrooms (though getting a complex about my wrists looking strange in photos)

Climate fiction (though I'm very ambivalent about the genre):

  • The Rooftop Garden by Menaka Raman-Wilms
  • When Shells Crumble by Cris Carlsson

Both go off in directions I didn't expect, with Carlsson's book being especially a "romp"

Ready to start a campaign for a new nationwide vegetarian protein now that Yves is being discontinued. It is/was a staple of being a vegetarian in rural Canada. The People's Yves https://dailyhive.com/vancouver/yves-veggie-cuisine-discontinued #yves

@exquisitecorp@merveilles.town ya, lots of thoughts on that end! I read a review about seeing it as a tragedy (and I guess relate it to Macbeth given the title is a reference). That gave me another way to process what I just read. and oooh, I haven't read more Kushner, but I should -- telex from cuba sounds interesting and I'll try to get my hands on it

@loriemerson@post.lurk.org oh I’m sorry to hear! I was planning on pre-ordering thru my local bookstore, but if there is a better direct link I’ll watch for it!

Next group, Green is the new red thrillers:

  • Birnam Wood by Eleanor Catton
  • Creation Lake by Rachel Kushner

Both stuck with me after for different reasons.

And my final grouping, also not sure of how it hangs together, maybe: Layered and opinionated perspectives on place.

  • This Land: How Cowboys, Capitalism, and Corruption Are Ruining the American West by Christopher Ketcham
  • The Pacific Circuit by Alexis Madrigal
  • City of Quartz by Mike Davis (finally!)
