Drawing: Possible causes of your problems. I've been appalled at the scenes we've witnessed over the last few days. It's utterly unacceptable that people should have to live in fear because of the colour of their skin.

Such an important feature on TotalEnergies by ITV Cycling and @mattrendell@indieweb.social on the Tour de France rest day programme this evening. In support: a repost of this drawing.

Hello Mastodon. I've realised that I've entirely neglected to keep you up to date with news.

1. Have I told you about my new weekly newsletter - https://diagramclub.substack.com/ ? No, I have not.
2. Were you informed about my new webcomic about domestic incompetence, Household Problems (https://householdproblems.com/)? I fear not.
3. Did I tell you that Massive Attack retweeted me? Nope - total silence.

I will make it my aim to rectify this sorry state of affairs, and show some new work over the coming weeks.

Replying to
@Brendan@phpc.social Thank you. To be honest I think it's a little busy for a t-shirt as it is. But I have a think about whether it could work in some other form.

Replying to
@Brendan@phpc.social Thank you - that's appreciated. Though I'll be honest with you - probably won't be anything up soon. Making merchandise wasn't really part of the thinking when I drew this, and I have a lot of other things I need to be doing at the moment.

Replying to
@paulocesar@mastodon.world The drawing is inspired by the UK situation, where we have hard a conservative (right-leaning) government for 14 years. But yes, I take your point that progressive politicians don't always tackle the issues on the left hand side of the drawing.

Replying to
@russellengland@mastodon.online The problem is that changing my work to 16:9 by putting space either side (which I think is what that site does) would surely make them smaller and harder to read when you do click on them, wouldn't it? I've made the decision to do new work square, as I don't have time to create versions for every platform, and it's the best size for a book.

Replying to
@alanjenkins96@mastodon.world I'm certainly not saying cyclists *should* cycle two abreast - as you rightly say there are places you wouldn't feel safe to do so. This is very much intended as a response to those who say they shouldn't.

Replying to
@john11@mastodonapp.uk True enough. I guess because most delays motorists experience tying to get home are down to… other motorists. The 20 cyclists probably whizzed past ages ago.

Replying to
@cdlinCA@mastodon.lol Carl - Yes, I can imagine it not being safe in such circumstances. I suppose my aim here is to defend cyclists in those instances where they feel it is the right thing to do. And I’m thinking you’re probably not in the UK, which adds other complications - different rules and culture on the roads, I suspect.

@alanjames@c.im @russellengland@mastodon.online Yes, that's what I've done, and I'm not quite sure why you wouldn't if you know it's there. But I realise many won't have as it isn't the default and they haven't seen the option.

@creek@mspsocial.net Thank you for noticing! They are tricky with cartoons, because the visuals are pretty important, but I do my best. Worried it must all be a bit long in some cases.

Replying to
@moirajane@climatejustice.social Thank you. My view is that people on bikes need to be able to travel safely, even if it slows people in cars down. In an ideal world there would be separate infrastructure for people on bikes, which would benefit everyone.

Replying to
@Waarisbal@mastodon-belgium.be I agree that removing the fear people are fleeing from is something we should be aiming to do. In reply to your first comment: I don't know if you have seen the news from the UK this week, but people absolutely are living in fear because they are worried they will be targeted by rioters because of their skin colour.

Replying to
@TawdryHepburn@mastodon.green It’s often possible to pass two abreast cyclists, and if it isn’t there may not be room to pass one either. See my linked blog post for more on this.
