Didn't expect this to blow up, thanks, Mastodon! On a serious note, Wendy wasn't just the longtime news reporter for "Computer Chronicles." She was also the editor of Newsbytes News Network, one of the first online services covering the tech industry. Thanks to @savetz@oldbytes.space, you can now view and search the entire Newsbytes archive from 1983-2002: https://www.savetz.com/newsbytes/

@rl_dane@polymaths.social @oxy@social.bsdlab.au The description of the launch event is quite funny. Sculley brought out the laser lights and mist. That's how you know Apple was a classy operation. 😛

@rl_dane@polymaths.social @oxy@social.bsdlab.au I'm writing about the launch of the first Macintosh Portable in 1989 for my next newsletter. Sculley tried to sell it as a computer for the people--at a price tag of $5,795 (floppy disk only, the hard drive would add another $700)!

IBM’s Frank King appeared on an October 1986 “Computer Chronicles” to demonstrate the IBM RT PC, a $10,000 RISC-based desktop computer with 4 MB of RAM, a 70 MB hard drive, and IBM’s proprietary UNIX, AIX, featuring the X Window System. https://www.computerchronicles.blog/computer-chronicles-revisited-065-ibm-rt-pc/ #retrocomputing #risc

@nixCraft@mastodon.social This is basically "Apple accusing Microsoft of stealing the GUI that Apple stole from Xerox" at the nation-state level. 😆
