I let the little guy settle in against me and when I moved slightly to get up, he opened his eyes and put his paw up "wait". And then he went right back to this.
So, I guess five more minutes...

@quinn@social.circl.lu Americans also often don't travel within our own country.
One of my current neighbors thinks she would need pepper spray to travel abroad and she's disinterested in traveling more than a state or two away from home. She's so extremely angry but the other neighbors are so sweet to her. The fear has her trapped in this small corner of life and the smallness of her life has her angry, resentful, and clingy.
Folks have ideas about the other states informed by tv and news.

@quinn The broader world is as foreign to many Americans as California is to Florida or Utah is to New York.
Its an important part of understanding and facing our challenges.
Most folks aren't so different but the belief that they are makes them coil up into tiny worlds and tiny lives, fearful of every possible source of joy and thus angry at every possible theft of joy that's within that tiny worldview.
Posting a #cat picture because...yeah...
For folks who might be having a rough time, here's some #cats
I will note that its just one cat in the shot.
#WritersCoffeeClub 12/27. How can we as writers support one another?
By remembering that we need a large community of writers & readers. Not as individuals building a fandom but as people who want storytelling to exist.
We each build our own corners of knowledge but we reside in the same broader community & it remains vitally important to support each other, to support readers & to make our community a place of refuge for those who nurture it rather than uplifting a few successful tyrants.
#ScribesAndMakers 08 Oct Why do you think some people don't see value in creativity?
Typically because someone broke it in them while they were children.
Kids are silly and creative. Often in ways that trigger a pain in some adults that those adults flail in response to.
Adults demonstrate in hundreds of ways that creativity isn't valuable and some kids grow up to snuff out that inner light within and seek to snuff it out in others.

I love seeing @TheWeeOwl@mastodon.art pop up in my feed. Although I covet many of their pieces, I would love for others to buy their work so they can keep making more 💖
#ScribesAndMakers June 27: If someone wanted to learn your art/craft, what advice would you give?
-Write some story ideas you want to read.
-Start small*.
-Think of it as a chance to explore uncharted territories within yourself, the map will be messy at first but then you'll reach a mountain where you gain perspective and you'll be able to remap a little more clearly.
-If you have fun**, you're on the right track.
*In your ambitions
**Fun is relative here

#ScribesAndMakers 5/20. Do you consider repair work creative? Why?
Absolutely!
Often times we repair ourselves via our creative work. Reimagining a version of a world with pieces of our own experience slotted into a larger narrative. Using our senses to reshape and move materials to express something glimpsed briefly and elongating that moment of discovery.
But also, "smaller" work like mending is creative because we imagine the damaged object transformed and then we make it so.
The cats from a couple days ago. They're both being lazy today as it's grey, gloomy and rainy. But, on sunny days they're quite lively until they encounter sunbeams.
Everyone's feeling exhausted this #Caturday but some of us are cuter than others.
Grey cat would prefer that nothing be done to interrupt nap time.

@munin Also, not arguing against anything you've said.
Its been sad seeing different online places slowly give over the human side of the community to various resources that paved the way towards LLM dependence.
I've been online since the 90s and folks have always had shitty moments but the outsourcing of community knowledge to google did seem to prime folks who are more vulnerable in ways that LLMs are calibrated to cater to.
@cstross@wandering.shop Given that every tech guy (and a few gals girlbossing too hard) are basically every creepy, dangerous horror movie child but grown up...I guess it makes sense that they'd make demonic dolls from hell.
What else would you make if you'd stopped becoming the creepy child? Go on a speaking tour about the anti-Christ? Mr. Reptile is already doing that.

@cstross@wandering.shop I don't know Linda was the one who drafted this but she did talk a sex abuse survivor out of compensation years back. This lawsuit related to that incident: https://abcnews.go.com/US/linda-mcmahons-alleged-wwe-sexual-abuse-lawsuit-paused/story?id=116558050
Just, perhaps important to underscore this type of leadership and professionalism in this moment.
Wanted to share James Stout's survey and Patreon in general because he's a thoughtful journalist who often highlights less featured stories about immigration:

He also has his new book:

He had posted on BlueSky but I think his work would have a lot of interest here.
