Hey howdy there! I'm a generally positive introvert who is interested in trying ten thousand things and could use some clones to get them done... but they'd probably just form a book club instead of take over the world.

I'm a pretty simple person in real life (it's my head that's full of funky, weird chaos) and am a practicing writer that aspires to make a living at home (while cultivating my own garden and getting really good at cooking and other self-sustaining living tasks). As long as I have my Houston sports, coffee, pets, books, movies, instruments, and my SNES and N64 around... life is generally better than "meh".

@lexiconista@mastodon.ie After I got my Master's degree, I had folks I work with joke that I'd go for my PhD next, but it never really occurred to me. They said it because they figured I loved school so much that it was inevitable I'd just be an eternal student and stay in school all my life to learn learn learn. The trouble is I didn't WANT to stay in school forever--I wanted to find my place elsewhere and use what I'd learned in a career outside of teaching public school (which was pretty much the only option I could think of at the time). That was the main reason I got my Masters, thinking it would give me a boost in the market and get me into museum work or research, most anything. Well, I learned too late that my degree is too broad and too limited at the same time, at least in my area, and I can't afford to move anywhere, so it has hindered me more than it helped. The irony is I probably would've been better off pursuing a PhD to become a history professor, since my experience proved I had a hard time making my way in the real world outside of a school or otherwise heavily academic environment. I'm actively trying to get some of that mojo back and revisit what I'd learned for my Masters at least, so as to build up my writing and editing skills to get online work in the next few months and turn that into my more fulfilling career where I can save money and work from home. Funny how I hadn't thought of this in a while. Glad I read this this morning, I needed to remember that.

@25kV Out in the open, too. No wall you can lean against and just observe without being noticed too much. Yikes. He's also got the vibe of "oh, I thought you were looking at me when you waved, not the person behind me.... awkward."

@oatmeal@mastodon.social My people!!! Thanks for staying on your side of the screen, though. Too cold and tired to socialize. Pet power will sustain me for now (and another cup of joe).

@jensorensen@mastodon.social @jhamre@oslo.town It's a short-term boost to the ego. Like a fad diet that you realize is truly a fad because you can't follow it for the next 20-30 years without boredom or serious consequences.

@jensorensen@mastodon.social @jhamre@oslo.town Then it's not a fad. It's a lifestyle change and you know how to make it work for you and to adjust for proper nutrition. The "fad" part would be marketing for a specific gender trying to make it more hip. I doubt I could ever go full-on vegan, but I've gone vegetarian a few times and tried veganism. If anything, I was experimenting to eat healthier with better recipes (growing up all we did was eat veggies on the side from a can, boiled to death... took me getting some vegetarian cookbooks to find new combos of veggies and prep methods so my taste buds accepted them and wouldn't get bored). I barely eat meat anymore because it's so pricey (and it HAS to be on sale before I even consider it). Actually got the No Meat Athlete's Cookbook in my stash for ideas... guess that'll be my September cookbook. Poor thing's been in there a while...
