probably an extremely hot take... but maybe this problem with Linux Mint (and other Linux distros that ship GNOME apps which are held back by how many versions) would not keep having bugs in them that are patched upstream if, yknow... the GNOME team didn't have a hard-on for constantly asking "use case for x?" and "what makes you think y is a metric?" about relatively sane features?

maybe forcing distros to actively change the source code to simply theme the app is a bad idea. you're pretty much just turning GNOME apps into Suckless apps, except GNOME apps are how many times more complicated and heavier on their source code and Suckless apps encourage you to modify them. really not sure why GNOME is the most ass backwards desktop environment meanwhile XFCE and KDE feel the most user-friendly and willing to add features for user QoL...

even hotter of a take, maybe GNOME is the sole thing holding Linux back from a larger OS market share because of these poor development decisions affecting the most user-friendly distros. just food for thought. #linux

free art request day yesterday went pretty good, had a lot of fun doing drawings for everyone (4 people) who made requests. I'd love to do that again for you all if you all enjoyed it. maybe in the future if people wish, I'll go get some crypto wallets for donos/commissions? unsure yet, not gonna jump the gun on my shitty art skills and think I'm worth asking for money to draw. might also post some random drawings for myself in the future too.

guess tonight's the night since @johatsu@neondystopia.world just got it going too, I'm gonna get GNU Guix setup on a spare SSD because this fella hates Docker and they want a sane development environment. fingers crossed this doesn't go badly? I've tried to setup NixOS and basically nothing I did managed to get it to boot. just gonna copy my Emacs and XMonad configs onto some other physical media and hope for the best, ah well at least I get to configure everything in Scheme. #linux

I finally discovered the secret to getting my Reese basses to sound more vocal. I kept trying to use Bandpass filters with a high resonance to get that vowel sound only to partially make it there, so I kept trying to mess with FM synthesis in Surge XT and tried different combinations of waveforms and even using spectral wavetables FMed into simple waveforms, no dice, not even OTT was saving it by helping to boost the high end of the spectrum. so I went and got Two Filters after being recommended to try it, saw it had Peak Filters mode, and setup 2 Peak Filters... now I've tried this with parametric EQs before but it felt too wonky to control until... brain blast. I made a simple detuned saw Reese, no post-processing, just Two Filters with 2 Peaks, I keep one Peak more stationary, modulate the other Peak... holy shit I did it. keeping one Peak stationary let me control the vowel sound while moving the other Peak was the mouth opening and closing. I wasn't using fucking anything else... and I did it.
