About how we renovated our garage after silly neighbours fought. And remembering my dad.

@dantleech@fosstodon.org I was surprised to notice that the same goes for monitor refresh rates. I've been using high refresh rate monitors for a while now, always thought "don't really notice that" when my monitor looked broken on my updated pc a couple months ago. Turns out it was still set to 60Hz.
Had my first welding class tonight. We were given a demo by 70 year old "Danny" for about 45 minutes, then pointed to a booth, given a MIG welder and let loose on 3 pieces of steel. I have no clue what I'm doing, but I'm having fun doing it. #Weldnesday (thanks for the hashtag idea, @SenseException@phpc.social ).
My mom's bird feeder collapsed last month. It was made by my grandfather, he's 93 now and no longer up to replacing it. The smell of sawdust still instantly transports me back to his woodshop.
I've been wanting to do more physical things with my hands besides writing code, so I bought a table saw and some tools over the last few months and made her a replacement yesterday. It's still a little wonky in places (god I hate jigsaws), but I'm pretty happy with how it came out.

@Girgias@phpc.social Welcome to Belgium, where we care about doing things the way they've always been done and we'll never question anything because that makes us stand out and why would anyone ever want that. Self-reflection, what's that?
Not a lot of welding last two weeks, but I did get around to a lot of woodworking. Made a custom wooden floor and bench for the car. Getting everything to fit was a right pain, but I'm pretty pleased with the result.
I love 3D printers. I printed a cyclone filter for my shop vac, but couldn't comfortably connect the hose (or quickly swap it out). Spent maybe 30 minutes in Fusion, printed a first version, adjusted some parameters and the second iteration fits like a glove.
De-Elon'd myself today.
I should take in my compost bin.
Had to think of @ocramius@mastodon.social this morning.
Project Hail Mary, or how a rock made me emotional.
If anyone needed a reminder of how truly evil the US admin is...

@dantleech@fosstodon.org I use an external webcam with a built in mic which solves both. The latter shouldn't be a thing. I use a US International layout (I use dead keys for accents on French words). Or do you mean swapping the mac and option keys? You can go to Keyboard settings, then "Keyboard Shortcuts" > "Modifier Keys" and swap 'em around.
