@signalapp Thanks for not cramming in a random AI integration or anything like that.
Oh, and for providing one of the best encrypted messengers out there for free. That too.

Hey! I'm a leftist privacy & digital rights advocate, I'd say I'm mostly a Democratic Socialist, and a humongous fan of computers and FOSS software.
If I come off as argumentative, it is probably not my intention. Unless you're a fascist :)
I don't tend to post much, mostly boosting, as I try not to spend a lot of time on social media past just occasionally checking what's up and giving the occasional comment :3

@neurovagrant@masto.deoan.org Honestly, I think it's both.
They don't want people to just think "LinkedIn is just slop anyways, no reason for me to give them literally every detail about me" and not use them, but they ALSO want to train more human sounding AI models because Microsoft profits if their model is harder to detect as not a person.

Short answer: It depends on the ROM, not any Google apps. If it's from a major manufacturer, probably.
Long answer: It's only on "certified Android" devices, and by that they mean on ROMs that are "certified" by Google, and installed on devices, but you can still replace that "certified" ROM with a non-certified one, such as GrapheneOS, LineageOS, etc, which wouldn't be under the restriction.

They clarify in their blog.

@dansup@mastodon.social It should definitely have a little addition to the "Choose your platform" page that compares to existing sites.
Normal users don't know what the heck the difference is between Mastodon or Pixelfed, nor do they always realize that "photo sharing" is what you'd describe something like Instagram as.
I believe there should be some kind of comparison. (e.g. Mastodon - description - Similar to: Twitter/X, Bluesky)

@dansup@mastodon.social I really do love the look though. This is significantly better than most onboarding processes for the fediverse have been historically!

@signalapp@mastodon.world I'm having issues messaging and receiving messages, and your DownDetector page is showing a large volume of user reports.
Any info on why this might be?
