Technology nerd. I love open source technology but use Mac and Windows, too. Hobbyist programmer, mostly using Python. Video games of all shapes and sizes.

Music nerd. I play guitar and bass, and am learning piano. Plus I have a mandolin which languishes in disuse because I'm very bad at it.

Amateur urbanist and bicycle rider.
New into the world of 3d printing.
Flight Sim Guy enough to have an Airbus joystick; not Flight Sim Guy enough to have rudder pedals.

Update: I’ve got all my PLA tests printed (not all pictures here). One goal I had is I wanted to design labels with different design languages for different brands, like if you had a box full of software made by different companies. They’d all look different! This makes the information slightly less clear, but I really like how it looks.

All the labels are designed by me in Affinity Photo, and printed on a Phomemo thermal printer. I’ve been having fun designing them. I basically just look up photos old software disks for inspiration. For example, some Amiga software disks I found had the Amiga logo going sideways up the left side, and that was my inspiration for the Eryone filament.

This thought brought to you by the recent Digital Foundry video about how the Switch 2 can run Cyberpunk 2077 on a mere NINE WATTS of power while still looking pretty good. I am way more excited about that than a graphics card that requires 500 watts on its own to pump out 4K ray tracing or whatever.

@javier_salcedo@mastodon.gamedev.place Sure, there will always be legitimate reasons professionals might need more power for niche cases. But in the consumer space? I can’t imagine needing any graphics for gaming better than what we have now, and my desktop PC has 64 GB of RAM which takes effort to even come close to utilizing all of it.

Pros:

  • It looks cool. My first iPod was a blue 5th Gen nano so I have nostalgia for the color
  • USB-C and wireless charging mean I will actually remember to charge it because I always lose my 30-Pin cable
  • Bluetooth is nice I guess but I’ll mostly be using wired headphones
  • Flash storage seems faster than the one I put in my other refurbished iPod

Cons:

  • The Custom Connect backplate glues in so I hope I never have to open this guy again
  • I don’t HATE that the backplate is visible from the front but I think it’s less sleek than a regular backplate
  • Removing the original faceplate sucked a lot and came with some minor injury
  • I wanted to avoid soldering so the USB-C is only good for charging and not data transfer. I still need my 30-pin cable to sync new music to it

Oh also I guess the biggest con of all was how expensive this project ended up being. I’m sure I could have gotten a very capable music player at half the cost. I certainly paid for nostalgia here.

@mykie I haven’t been on Fedi for a few days so I missed the vote but I’m a “sequel” guy. So add one to that tally.
