The Austrian government is reportedly planning to cut university budgets by 14%: https://www.derstandard.at/story/3000000321340/universitaeten-ruesten-sich-fuer-einschnitte-beim-budget?ref=seite1_zonekur

This would be a severe blow to research, teaching, students, and Austria’s future as a knowledge-based society. Universities need stable funding — not austerity measures that weaken education and innovation.

🎉 Excited to share our (@janispagel@fedihum.org, @nilsreiter@social.cologne) latest work at LaTeCH-CLfL 2025:

Prompt Engineering in Computational Literary Studies – Promise vs. Practice

We test how reliably LLMs generate sequence labels in a CLS context:
🔁 same prompts, different splits
🧠 prompt rewording
📎 performance-boosting phrases

Findings: results vary by split & wording; fixed phrases rarely help.

📄 Our new paper – with Martin Endres & @nilsreiter@fedihum.org – is now published in the Journal of Computational Literary Studies!
We present a workflow to evaluate LLM-generated poem interpretations using standards and argumentative structures from literary studies, showing strengths in descriptive analysis and limitations in producing acceptable rules of inferences.
