Here's my #inktober apple. Mostly just scribbles trying to remember how procreate works.

@ValueSubtracted@mstdn.ca my issue is I get too distracted just looking out at the vistas in VR to actually make much forward progress. 🤣

@ValueSubtracted@mstdn.ca I hate to admit this, but I've casually played NMS off and on since launch day, and I still have no idea what people mean when they talk about different galaxies.
One of the things I would miss here on Mastodon was all of the alerts from my local infrastructure and government twitter accounts. These will likely take a very long time to make the migration.
With https://bird.makeup, you can create bot accounts that put those tweets in your Mastodon timeline. For instance, I follow the Washington State Patrol account for regional weather related road closures and accident reports:
EDIT: I Should have tagged the project's creator: @vincent@social.librem.one
Gonna try and hold out for the Tricentennial, in the hopes that things are better then.
Impromptu watch party going on.
Two new additions to the Etsy model shop.

#SlateAuto has said since the beginning that they'll be a DIY-friendly & right-to-repair-supporting car company, supplying how-to videos and CAD files for all kinds of customizations. The first tutorial on their "Slate U" site has gone up: how to replace the front signal covers. Simple procedure, but the step-by-step instructions and the quality of the video walkthrough make me excited for the what's coming.
Pre-orders open tomorrow morning!

Accidental leak, vibe-coded oversight, or deliberate guerrilla marketing campaign? Who knows. But it looks like #SlateAuto's barebones EV pickup truck price may have gotten revealed a week early, at $24,950.

These 3D printer bills keep getting more big brothery.

@cmdrmoto@hachyderm.io They're going to set up a system where, instead of printing ghost guns, people will be printing ghost printers.
I have some mixed feelings about Taylor Sheridan's shows, but you can't deny his cinematographers know how to shoot landscapes.
One pattern I think I've noticed is that they seem to always frame sunrises to the left, and sunsets to the right. At least they've all been that way since I've started watching for it. Is that a known thing in filmmaking? Conceptually it makes sense (left/beginning, right/end) and helps the viewer subliminally understand what they're looking at.
A really interesting project to raise awareness about the impacts datacenters are having on a threatened region. A group of Chileans accepted prompts that would normally go to a chatbot, and provided human generated responses instead. Artwork, recipes, etc. created by people sharing their “analog intelligence.”
Theres a short promo video here:
Thought it would be interesting to have AI create some whimsical #woodworking furniture designs, and then think about how they could be built in real life. Things quickly went off the rails...

I will admit to looking up the two ? Ones though, just to be sure I wasn't walking into a trap to expose racial biases. I should have gotten #4.

@jnavarra@mastodon.social Agreed! There's no reason that civic organizations should rely on a private company for dissemination of public information.

@nyrath@spacey.space The dresser does have that melty look. Thanks for giving me a name for the style. I might try adding it to the prompt to see what other abominations come out!

@jadp@mastodon.social You don't want to wake up to that nightmare fuel staring at you?
The first end table I think is pretty great. Get yourself a 3’ walnut veneer grade log, a 5 axis CNC mill, and you'd be good to go!

@BikingViking@mastodon.social @wspd7pio@bird.makeup It may take some time for the bridge to start pulling content from twitter. That seems to be the nature of federation? The project's creator @vincent@social.librem.one would have better insight into how often tweets are brought across.
Waiting for the USGS tracker to update to see if that really was an earthquake we just felt.
RE: @CuratedHackerNews@mastodon.social
“Gaussian splatting” sounds like a fake techy term from a Star Trek script. “Captain, we appear to be trapped in a field of Gaussian splats emitted from that nebula.”
But its a real thing, and super cool. Check out the honeybee splat, it’s interactive & you can drag it around with your finger.

@gedeonm@mastodon.social This is the thing that caused me to slam the brakes on a usb-c upgrade. I'll stick with the inconvenience of keeping a dedicated keyboard lightning cable in my drawer over this key relocation nonsense.
IniBuild's new Airbus A380 for Flight Simulator 2024 has working showers onboard and an "Advanced Water Management System."

Dear iOS,
Sync the dang photos. Just do it. For the love of Pete, you drive me crazy with this nonsense. It doesn't matter what my battery level is, sync is always paused!
(Is this fixed in iOS 26 or 27?)

Here's my favorite screwdriver. The laser-etched tips on these Weras are really nice, and the handles are comfy too. The etching grabs onto screws with friction alone, they're not magnetized.
