My first post on Mastodon, as well as my first day in the Fediverse and a new start away from the bin-fire that is Faceb00k. A photograph taken on a cold and misty January morning at Hawkhill Inclosure, near Beaulieu, in the New Forest, UK. #thenewforest #forest #nature #woods #hampshire

Reminiscing with this gorgeous cluster of deep orange Favolaschia claudopus (Orange Porecap Fungus) fruiting bodies on a decaying Beech trunk. I took this on my local patch at Denny Wood, New Forest, UK in Autumn 2024. A subtropical species marching eastward across Britain's warmer southern counties. An indicator of environmental changes afoot.
