@mhoye as the rubber hits the road, we are learning that there is not very much rubber, and not very much road. the only upside to this mess will be watching the slow-motion car crash as it all falls apart.

@lkanies@hachyderm.io movies that cost that much cannot be good, almost by definition. a studio is not going to put up 250 million and let the director go wild making his own decisions. they will insist that he sand down all the rough edges and make it appeal to the widest possible audience, including international markets. better to bet on directors with a track record, who mostly make modestly-priced movies, so the studio won’t be so upset if they under-perform. steven soderbergh comes to mind.

@grumpygamer@mastodon.gamedev.place i will give zuck credit for this much: most one-hit-wonder tech companies eventually get their lunch eaten by upstarts, due to institutional inertia and hubris. zuck had the foresight to see which upstarts were likely to eat his lunch and buy them before they became much of a threat. so that’s two big zuck wins: making the world worse with facebook, and making the world worse by neutering competition. truly, a shining triumph we can all admire.

@mhoye@cosocial.ca i hate when people deliver apps written in interpreted languages to end users. it is inherently brittle, and is going to cause a lot of headaches for users who aren't as familiar with the tech stack as the developers. i have been forced to use cocoapods and fastlane for many years now, both written in ruby, and boy am i tired of solving those projects' issues for them. at least cocoapods is now obsolete and on the way out, replaced by a different app that is mercifully compiled.

@anildash@me.dm he was an incredible musician, no doubt. but i had to stop listening to him because he was such a terrible human being. it quite often comes through in his lyrics, how little regard he has for anybody but himself.

@anildash@me.dm aww, man. surely you are not going to defend how he left sheila e in debt after a tour, taking advantage of her naivete. or the way he treated appolonia right there onscreen in “purple rain.” many more of those i could dig up if was so inclined.
