This week with scientists, research software engineers, research community managers at the Software Sustainability Institute's Collaborations workshop: talking through what poetry can teach us about computing, the poetics of computing... and importantly, making blackout poetry with a C++ textbook and a mathematician's novel!

For my fellowship with the @SoftwareSaved@mastodon.social this year, I’ll be seeding connections between the worlds of creative computation and academic computing.

I’m keen to chat with artists, creative coders, research software engineers, and academic practitioners to explore what folks can learn from one another this year.

Please fill out this short form – and share it with others who might be interested too:

I'll be stewarding a team through their next organisational strategy over the next six months! As touchstones, I've been looking towards other examples of this across the ecosystems I know, would love to know if there are other folks on here with references I can add to this ongoing 'strategy moodboard': https://www.are.na/anne-lee-steele/org-policy-strategy-roadmap-documents

If there's anything I've learned from interdisciplinary work, it's that disciplines create world views, and bridging worldviews (let along understanding a single one with depth) requires time and patience... but also joy and play!

Both slide decks are on zenodo:

Have a lot of work coming out lately, which is scary and exciting. If vulnerability is a muscle, I sure feel sore. 😂

@nacly@floss.social That is a FANTASTIC idea! I promised myself that I would document the route & tour once I've given it 3 times, as that will demonstrate if it's an established route rather than a one-off experiment. So true to form, that should be after this run! (Also, if there's enough interest I might run one more tour during the following Sunday if you're free then 😉 )

@nacly@floss.social @turingway@fosstodon.org Bummed to miss you - but I think that's a fantastic idea to open it source it like a 'turing way' guide to internet tours, so that folks can run their own as well! (I too, was building off of templates that others have built after all). How about we chat in March, it'd be great to get your perspective on scaffolding a very low-fi version, just to get it out there!

@nacly@floss.social I haven't forgotten about documentation btw, Pen! I'd like to make a zine in July - after a few iterations of route and text. The upcoming dates take me on a few historical and topical rabbit holes that are much-needed!

@lizhare@fosstodon.org it's happening, finally! your encouragement has been in the back of my mind this whole time -- remembering that it will rarely be something that you regret NOT doing, regardless of how difficult it is to make happen.
