Planning #AoIR2023 (and #AoIR2021) has taken up a lot of my life these last five years. This year alone, I've done something nearly every day (including weekends) related to the conference. And it was totally worth it. To hear/see so many people enjoy Philly, Temple, the program, the Keynote/plenary, receptions, and especially the closing banquet at Reading Terminal Market gave me back the energy I put in. Safe travels home to all who are traveling!
My latest publication, part of the the "What is cultural studies?" series in the International Journal of Cultural Studies, is now online: "Video games as cultural studies other" (note: requires library access to the journal): https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/13678779241295771
Every time, @annaleen@wandering.shop's books are exactly what I need. Automatic Noodle is a perfect stormy Sunday read.
Best blog/essay/think (i.e. short, not necessarily academic) pieces on interactive storytelling (any genre/format)? More looking for big picture writing, not reviews of individual projects.
Seeking help for a student: They would like to secure a press pass for The Wicked Premiere red carpet as a university television station reporter or student content creator. Any advice on how they should go about this?
I need a new game. Requirements: PS5 or Steam deck compatible. Good/interesting narrative or approach to storytelling. Main story is under 20 hours (preferably shorter over longer). Released in last two years preferably.
Gets a flurry of accommodation letters as it is day one of the semester, including one marked by outlook as spam. Logs into portal to acknowledge said letters, and finds the portal is empty.
Me: "someone, probably many someones, is/are having a very bad first day of the semester"
